Hey all, sorry for the delay but we had a definate lack of communications in the south pacific. The Cook Islands were very beautiful and we stayed in a great hostel in Rarotonga the main island. The beach was fantastic with two islands off the beach that you could snorkle or even wade out too. We had some a great time chilling on the beach with a lovely couple we met (Hi Chris and Lea!) and had alcohol fuelled evenings sitting on the patio playing cards and eating. Unfortunately the sunshine deserted us and by day three was set for five days of black clouds and rain (not exactly the post card I had in my mind!) We didn't let the rain stop play however and decided to go to the only place where the rain wouldn't get us...the bottom of the sea! We had intended on doing a couple of fun dives but decided to do a three day course instead to get our advanced Open Water cards. This was a great decision where we got to do more specialised dives. The instructor taught us how to backward roll out of the boot which felt really cool and we got to explore a shipwreck and do a night dive. the night dive was most excellent you just rolled out of the rain into a dark, warm bath armed with a little torch! It was absolutely excellent, a little scary but we got to see loads of creatures moving about you don't usually see in the day. We saw millions of sea urchins rolling about and cray fish and some gigantic moray eels which looked like they may decide to eat you at any moment!! The course also included a deep dive, where we got to dive to 30m. We got to feel the effects of nitrogen narcosis (FYI - causing an increase of Nitrogen bubbles to the brain!) which makes you feel a little drunk...I found myself just swimming along giggling to myself and doing sommersaults, it was really excellent. It was definately the best thing to be doing to enjoy our time there and a good last chance to dive before heading for the states...next stop LA LA Land!! love Kyle and Nic
