Horseshoe Bay - ferry
En attente pour 3 heures - A 3-hour waitDépart de Surrey vers 11h00. J'ai du temps, moins de 200 km de route plus une heure, 40 min sur le traversier à Horseshoe Bay pour Nanaïmo. Ça va bien, c'est dimanche et il n'y a personne sur les chantiers de construction. J'arrive au traversier à 11h30. Ah, quoi ? Trois heures d'attente ? Ce sera le traversier de 14h30 ! Je prend donc mon mal en patience et j'attends. 😊 Une fois arrivée à Nanaïmo, je reprend la route vers Port Alberni, en faisant un arrêt pour souper et faire du lèche-vitrine au Coombs Country Market et le « Goats on the roof » : http://www.oldcountrymarket.com . Endroit assez sympathique, magasins pleins de bric-à-brac et de bouffe aussi. Et il y a des chèvres qui broutent sur le toit de verdure. 😊
La route devient de plus en plus sinueuse, et je vois déjà de grands et gros arbres dans les bois.
Arrivée au Redford Motel à 19h00. Je fais mon lavage et je fais le ménage de mes photos.
Déjà près de minuit et je n'ai pas arrêté. Pas le temps de s'ennuyer. 😊 Demain, Tofino et la plage !
Jour 30 - lundi le 29 juillet, Tofino Ce matin, en route pour Tofino ! La route est pleine de courbes, parfois en tête d'épingle. La forêt d'un côté, la montagne de l'autre. Des fois, c'est tellement étroit qu'il faut diminuer sa vitesse à 30 km/h. Pas trop reposant mais bien majestueux. Je traverse le Parc National de Pacific Rim. J'arrête faire une excursion dans la forêt humide (rainforest). 1,1 km toute seule en forêt, dans un sentier quand même très bien aménagé, des trottoirs de bois et beaucoup de montées et de descentes d'escaliers. C'est le silence, même pas le son des oiseaux ! Je n'entend rien. Je suis contente de ne pas voir d'animaux. 😊 Il y a de très gros arbres, très vieux (plusieurs centaines d'années) dont plusieurs sont tombés. Des arbres de plusieurs mètres de diamètre, parfois jusqu'à 9 mètres. C'est assez impressionnant. Il y a aussi beaucoup de mousses, lichens et fougères.
J'arrive finalement à Tofino. Yé, j'ai réussi ! J'ai traversé le Canada jusqu'au bout. Pas mal fière de moi!
La petite ville de Tofino est bien sympathique. Beaucoup de boutiques pour le surf et pour les cadeaux et souvenirs et quelques restaurants. Tofino est principalement une ville de pêcheurs et de tourisme. Il est possible de faire des excursions en mer, du kayak, aller voir les baleines et toutes sortes d'activités. Et il y a beaucoup de surfeurs. Je soupe au restaurant « Shelter ». Je mange un bol de saumon sauvage avec riz basmati, riz sauvage et légumes et je déguste un excellent cocktail, un rhum brun avec boisson de gingembre. Mmm !
Sur le retour, j'arrête voir quelques plages. Je suis un peu déçue. Le temps est assez frais et il y a de la brume. Les plages sont grandes mais peu entretenues et il y a beaucoup de bois échoué. C'est quand même assez spectaculaire. Je n'ai pas vu de grandes vagues mais ça ne devait pas être une bonne journée.
Retour à Port Alberni à 20h30. Demain, Victoria. Je crois que je resterai deux jours. Je veux avoir le temps de visiter les Jardins Butchart et voir un peu la ville. De plus, il faut que je prévois ma traversée à Port Angeles,

de Vancouver à Nanaïmo - to Nanaïmo du côté américain.
Jour 31 - mardi le 30 juillet, Victoria Je reprend la route en fin d'avant-midi. Pas de presse! Victoria n'est qu'à deux heures quarante minutes. Je m'arrête au Cathedral Grove, sur la 4E, pas très loin de Port Alberni. Je marche plus de deux heures dans les forêts à faire des photos des magnifiques arbres qui s'y trouvent, surtout des Pins de Douglas. Le plus gros et le plus grand a 800 ans. Imaginez ! Il était déjà là depuis 300 ans quand Christophe Colomb est arrivé. Il y a beaucoup de monde sur les sentiers, contrairement à hier où j'étais pratiquement seule en forêt. Beaucoup de francophones, de Québecois et des Français. Je rencontre même un couple de Saint-Georges de Beauce qui connaît bien mes ex-beau-frère et belle-sœur, Charles et Diane.
Arrivée à Victoria vers 17h30. Facile pour entrer en ville. Le trafic sort de la ville alors que moi, je rentre. Hôtel facile à trouver et j'ai une très belle chambre, avec meubles tous neufs. Un lit King avec 6 oreillers ! 😊 Je reste deux nuits. Demain, Jardin Butchart entre autres. Ce soir, je me tiens assez tranquille, comme à mon
habitude. 😊
23h00 - J'ai pu faire une réservation en ligne pour le traversier de Victoria, CB - Port Angeles, WA. Je n'aurai pas à attendre indûment comme la dernière fois ! Le nombre de réservations possibles pour le traversier de 10h30 et de 15h00 était déjà atteint, mais tout d'un coup, j'ai vu « Available » pour le trajet de 15h00. J'ai vite procédé à une réservation. Il faut tout de même que je sois là 90 minutes à l'avance pour les douanes puisque c'est un voyage international. 😊
J'ai aussi acheté mon billet pour les Jardins Butchart ! J'économise quelques $.
Jour 32 - mercredi le 31 juillet, Victoria Après-midi à me promener dans les Jardins Butchart. De bien beaux paysages ! Ça vaut la peine d'être vu !
Après un court repos à la chambre, je sors souper dans le quartier chinois à quelques rues de mon hôtel. Du poulet à l'orange et un riz vapeur, tout simplement. Très bon ! Puis, je me dirige sur la rue Government et je marche jusqu'au Waterfront. L'hôtel Fairmont, le Empress est de l'autre côté de la rue et à droite, des bâteaux, des voiliers.

au marché, Coombs, île de Vancouver - Vancouver Island Et plus loin, on aperçoit le Parlement. Je me promène, j'écoute les amuseurs publics et je prends des photos. Le soleil se couche, le Parlement s'illumine.
Vers 21h15, je retourne tranquillement à l'hôtel. Il commence à faire noir et il est mieux que je rentre même si je ne suis pas vraiment inquiète. J'ai rencontré plusieurs Québécois aujourd'hui. Toujours intéressant de leur demander d'où ils viennent. Il y a même une dame qui est pratiquement ma voisine, car elle demeure aussi à la Pointe de Sainte-Foy.
Demain, je prend le traversier Victoria-Port Angeles et me dirige vers Seattle, Washington, US. J'ai réservé ma chambre en utilisant un choix à l'aveugle de Expédia.ca et c'est à Kent, non loin de Seattle, qu'on m'a trouvé une chambre pas trop chère. La route du retour va commencer.
Jour 33 - jeudi le 1e août, Victoria Mon traversier ne partant qu'à 15h00, je quitte l'hôtel à 11h00 et je me rend tout près du quai. J'achète mon billet et je vais me promener autour. Je prends quelques photos et mange une petite bouchée, un excellent « clam chower » et un croissant au saucisson et fromage. À 13h30, je suis

Coombs, île de Vancouver - Vancouver Island de retour au quai afin de passer les douanes. Je suis d'ailleurs l'une des premières à entrer sur le traversier. Départ à l'heure prévue et arrivée à Port Angeles vers 16h45. Je suis maintenant aux États et je dors à Seattle !
AU CANADA, J'AI FAIT 7857 KILOMÈTRES AVEC MA VALEUREUSE HONDA FIT DEPUIS LE 29 JUIN 2013 ! _______________________________________________________________ Port Alberni, Tofino, Victoria - Vancouver Island Days 29 to 32. Day 29 - Sunday, July 28, Port Alberni I leave Surrey at 11:00 am. I have time, less than 200 km of driving and an hour, 40 min. on the ferry for Nanaïmo. It's going well, it's Sunday and there is no one on the construction sites. I arrive at Horseshoe Bay at 11:30 am. What? A three-hour wait? My ferry will be at 2:30 pm! Having no choice, I wait! 😊 Once in Nanaïmo, I get back to driving toward Port Alberni. I make one stop in Coombs at the Country Market and Goats on the Roof: http://www.oldcountrymarket.com to have dinner and do some window shopping. Interesting place, stores full of all kinds of stuff, and some food also. And there are Old Country Market

The road has more and more curves and I see many very tall and big trees in the forest. I arrive at the Redford Motel at 7:00 pm. I do some laundry and I work on my photos. It almost midnight and I haven't stopped yet. No time to get lonely. 😊 Tomorrow, Tofino and the beach! Day 30 - Monday, July 29, Tofino This morning, on my way to Tofino! It's a long winding road, with many curves. The forest on one side and the mountain on the other. Sometimes, the road is so narrow that motorists have to slow down to 30km/h. A bit stressful but still majestic! I go through the Pacific Rim National Park. I stop at one point to hike in the rain forest. 1,1 km alone, on a wooden path with lots of stairs, up and down. It's very peaceful, but a bit eerie for me! No sounds, not even birds! I'm glad that I don't see any animals. 😊 Some trees are very big and very old (hundreds of years) and some up to 9 meters in diameter. Very impressive. There is Old Country Market

I finally arrive in Tofino. Yeah! I did it! I drove through western Canada, to the end. I'm pretty proud of myself! Tofino is a nice little town! A lot of boutiques, for surfers and for souvenirs/gifts, and a few restaurants. Tofino is a fishing and touristic town. It's possible to do sea excursions, kayak, whale watching and all kinds of activities. There are a lot of surfers around. I have dinner at the restaurant Shelter. I eat a bowl of wild salmon with basmati and wild rice plus a lot of vegetables. Very good! And I also have a nice cocktail: brown rhum and ginger beer. Mmm! On my way back, I stop to see a few beaches. I'm a bit disappointed. It's fairly cool and there is fog. The beaches are big but not really taken care of. There is a lot of dead wood laying around! It's still quite spectacular. The waves were not very big. It was just not the best of days for beaches. Back in Port Albani at 8:30 pm. Tomorrow, Victoria. Coombs, île de Vancouver - Vancouver Island two days. I want to have time to visit the Butchart Gardens and see the city. I must also plan my ferry trip to Port Angeles on the American side.
Day 31 - Tuesday, July 30, Victoria I get back on the road at the end of the morning. No hurry! Victoria is only at 2 hours and 40 minutes. I stop at the Cathedral Grove, on route 4E, not far from Port Alberni. I walk more than 2 hours in the forest, taking pictures of the beautiful and magnificent trees, mostly Douglas Fir. The biggest one and the tallest is 800 years old. Imagine! It was already 300 years old when Christopher Columbus arrived. There is a lot of people on the trails, not like yesterday when I was practically by myself on the trail. There are many French people, from Quebec and France. I even meet a couple from St-George de Beauce who knows my ex-brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Diane. I arrive in Victoria around 5:30 pm. Easy! The people are trying to get out of the city, and I'm going in. The hotel is easy to find and I have a very chèvre sur le toit - goat on the roof

11:00 pm - I was able to make a reservation online for the ferry from Victoria, BC to Port Angeles, WA. I won't have to wait for a "first-come, first-serve" place like the other day. The number of reservations possible for the 10:30 am and 3:00 pm ferries was already attained, but suddenly, I saw an "Available" for the 3:00 pm schedule. I quickly made my reservation. I still need to be there 90 min beforehand because I have to go through customs. 😊 I also bought my ticket for the Butchart Gardens. Saved a couple of $. Day 32 - Wednesday, July 31, Victoria Spent the afternoon walking in the Butchart Gardens. Beautiful scenery! It's worth it! After a short rest at my room, I go out for dinner in Chinatown, not far from my hotel. Orange chicken and plain white rice. Very good! After, I go on Government street and I walk to the Waterfront. The Fairmont hotel, The Empress is on the other side of the road, and on the chèvres sur le toit - goats on the roof
Coombs, île de Vancouver - Vancouver Island right, there are boats, sail boats. And a little farther, I see the Parliament building. I walk around, watch the street entertainers and take pictures. The sun sets and the Parliament lights up.
I return to my hotel around 9:15 pm. It's starting to get dark and it's best for me to be safe in my room. You never know even though I wasn't feeling scared! I met a few Quebecers today. Always interesting to ask them where they come from. There was even a lady who is practically my neighbour because she also lives in my part of the city. Tomorrow, I'm taking the ferry from Victoria to Port Angeles and I will then drive toward Seattle, Washington, US. I made my hotel reservation blind by using Expedia and they found me a good priced hotel in Kent, not far from Seattle. The return home is about to start. Day 33 - Thursday, August 1st, Victoria My ferry is leaving at 3:00 pm so I leave the hotel at 11:00 am to get to the wharf where I buy my ticket. Since the waterfront is right in the middle of downtown, I walk around the chèvre sur le toit - goat on the roof
Coombs, île de Vancouver - Vancouver Island area for a couple of hours. I take a few pictures and I have lunch, an excellent clam chowder and a croissant with sausage and cheese. At 1:30 pm, I have to be back in the line-up to go through US customs. I'm one of the first to drive into the ferry. We leave on time and arrive in Port Angeles around 4:45 pm. I am now in the States! 😊 Sleeping in Seattle!
