(August 26th through the 27th 2005) Early Friday morning we left for Puebla. Lucha came to pick me up at Pollo's apartment, and went back to her place for breakfast. Her mother made great eggs, and we (Lucha, her mother, her grandmother, and me) left late morning. The two hour ride was quiet--I had known most of the road from the work I did the year before. They invited me to tag along, to see the city with Lucha, while her grandma saw other family members and Lucha's sister. We got off at the outskirts of Puebla, as Lucha's mother and grandmother were going to another part of town, while we were heading to the center. We took the "ruta" (the bus) and got off near the center. We walked around, on a hot day, and got to know the city. It was really beautiful. Lucha tells me that the city is known for it's architecture. I liked it, but I don't know what to compare it to. From there we visited some historic buildings, and made our way to the zocalo. Walked around, saw the cathedral and went to a church known for the art work in it--the name scapes me--sorry!
It was a good walk. The buildings provided a nice shade, the city was beautiful to stroll through, and catching up some more with a great friend made the city that much likeable. We searched for a place that served mole poblano, fomous in the region. A thick sauce made of chili and other spices, but mole poblano has chocolate. Your choice of chicken or turkey, I went with chicken. I, the clumsy guy that I am, spilled mole all over my shirt, and it is quite hard to get mole out.
We walked around some more, me walking around like an idiot with the stain, and made our way to los sapos. It is the same as la plazuela in Cuernavaca, but just a bit smaller. We had some beers, tried to figure out what to do that night, and conversed about chicharron, Mexican style vs. Colombian style. We finally got in touch with Lucha's mom, met her at the grand mall there, Angelopolis. We took the "ruta" that provided great views of el Popocatepetl. Walked around, talked about politics and Che, and ate delicious ice cream. Dinner at Chili's To Go, and headed to Lucha's sister's apartment.
Lucha's grandmother tried to take out the stain, but not all of it came out.
We then searched where to go for the night. Lucha knew about Pulque Para Dos, a club in Puebla where Kosme had played with his band. He had said that it was a great atmosphere and good people. However, Lucha's sister said no, and that only drug addicts go there. Well, we ended up there, and it was such a fun night. The band playing was good, up to the end when every song seemed the same, and the crowd was really cool. Cheap beers. It was a cool place, worth the trip. The next morning we had breakfast at a local place that the family knew about, and we all headed back to Cuernavaca. Had dinner at a local taqueria near Lucha's house. We went to la plazuela, and met with el Conde and Kosme. Low key, and we just hung out. The next morning we were off to Oaxaca.
