This is my first blog-entry on TravelBlog. In a week or two, Jana & I plan to go cruising along the coast of Rhode Island and Massachusetts on "Pavane", our 34-foot sloop. I plan to use this blog to document our very-low-key cruise.

Let me begin with a few notes about Pavane. She is a Moody-34, built in England in 1986. We bought her a few years ago. Her home port is Warwick, RI, on the West side of Narragansett Bay, just a couple of hours sail across the bay from Newport. In 2010, our first season aboard, we took a very leisurely trip up the New England coast to Boothbay Harbor in Maine. At the end of that season, we left her for the winter in Casco Bay, near Portland, ME. The next season we continued up the Maine coast to Mount Desert Island and then sailed back to Rhode Island in an equally leisurely fashion.

This year, our plans are even more modest. We plan to go only as far as Boston and Salem in Massachusetts. And back "home" again. These are familiar waters and we plan to revisit all our favorite ports and anchorages along the way.

Pavane should be going in the water this week and I am waiting to hear whether she has been launched yet. I am writing this from home in Burlington, CT.

West Indies
I read your blog. I note that you like to sail the Caribbean islands. If you like the islands perhaps you can have a look at my recent blog on Saint Lucia which I don't know whether you have visited or not. Go to www.mytb.org/whirl-traveller
