We have spent one week making a roughly circular route around Ireland with my cousin and a friend. Each new stop never seems too far away although we have still travelled some considerable kilometres. (Yes Ireland is metric, unlike England and it also has Euros!)

Every destination has a load of pubs offering good standard meals and traditional Diddley Dee music. Some sing those ballads and you just have to sing along with them. Think Fields of Barley, Danny Boy and the Mollie Malone Cockles and Mussels one. It is often foot stamping, hand clapping, spirit lifting music! Fun! The decor is always Diddley Dee traditional with crooked walls, low ceilings and undulating floors. The walls are decorated with sports team paraphernalia, old black and white photos or brass knick knacks.

The scenery is as spectacular as you have been told. Very green rolling hills in many places and elsewhere rugged coastline. One of the highlights has been The Ring Of Kerry which we did as a 7 hour bus tour allowing us all to concentrate on the views and not on the very narrow roads. At 26 Euro each it was a bargain! Like all the Irish we have met, the bus driver had a great sense of humour. Another highlight was driving around Dingle: remember Ryan's daughter? That was filmed near Dingle. Then we were off to The Cliffs Of Moher. (Princess Bride fans will know them as The Cliffs Of Insanity). Amazing. No nanny state here in Ireland. Walk right up to the cliff face and fall off if you want! Scary watching people take photos near the edge!

I am sure that we have not touched the surface of things to see here in Ireland. Some of the walking routes look spectacular and we just haven't had time to get to them. The weather has been great with 30C which is hot by anyone's standard. The locals say it is a miracle!

All still green and lovely
Hi Hilary & Roger the pics bring back memories from our trip in 2006. We visited many of the same places ... The scenery is stunning I have the same photos. It was also hot then too. Are you heading to N Ireland as well? All the best, Jane
