We travel to not escape life, but for life not to escape us.

Happy belated birthday Dad who was born on July 1st! We were all set to call you but people were coming & going and I wanted everyone to be together when we called. Then Ray & Pat arrived, went for dinner and it was too late to call...we'll be dialing you up today! Happy birthday to Conal too (Kels & Casey's older brother who just turned 20!)

I hope you all celebrated in style. We had our red & white flashing necklaces & bracelets and Canada Day tattoos on! The restaurant Fusion gave a shout out to the Canadians there!

I'm a little behind with this blog; sheesh there's always so much to take in and do. It's such a fun time for me walking around, shopping, lounging etc. Jeez I feel like I'm busier than a one-toothed lad in a corn-on-the-cob eating contest 😉 But we're grabbing vacation by the biscuits and enjoying every waking moment (and the sleeping ones too!!!)

Really nothing too exciting to report other than the deep sea fishing outing but here's a small picture of what we've been doing...

Sunday passed at a nice leisurely pace of swimming in both the pool and ocean, shopping at Walmart for a few supplies, eating, drinking (ha!) and it was so blistering hot we opted to take a cab back to the condo.

These taxi drivers are amazing here with their driving skills. Talk about Speedy Gonzalez; I don't know how they don't have any accidents here as they weave in and out of side streets and they don't signal and you're at your condo before you can get your seat belt on. And they don't get driver's rage like at home if someone dared to move into your lane...It's just understood this is a tourist town and cabs need to do what they need to do to get tourists around. It's 50 pesos for a cab around here, which translates to around $4 CDN. And on a sweltering day when your sweat is sweating, you'd gladly pay $40 to get into the A/C!

I watch old re-runs of the Beverly Hillbillies at home and speaking of road rage, I watched one recently where Jed & Jethro are out driving and someone flips them the bird...this is how the conversation goes:

Jed Clampett: "Now why do you suppose he's doing that?"

Jethro: Well I reckon that's how people wave hello in Beverly Hills.

Ohhh the best one liners came out of that show.

So Sun night we enjoyed a fabulous meal of surf & turf. The seafood platter consisted of 2 lobster tails, two blue crab (these were tasty but a bit tricky to eat but they had a lovely crispy taste), grilled garlic shrimp, calamari, red snapper, clams, and with all the fixiin's like rice, grilled veggies, potatoes with butter & sour cream and cabbage salad along with these in-house baked dinner rolls with tiny pats of butter wrapped in corn husk. OMG, the Caribbean lobster with garlic butter made my taste buds do the cha-cha-cha! I had been craving lobster, so Sunday night it was date night with lobster. Kelsey had a shrimp and avocado salad; I have never seen such big shrimp in a salad and beautifully prepared. Marth & Al had steak but neither felt it was anything special. I always say, stick to the house specials; they are always good.

Canada Day we woke up early, and the girls and I walked the beach while Al took a 3K run on the beach; good lord I've never seen him so drenched. I put in a strenuous morning myself (hahaha), I got up, walked the beach, had a swim with the girls in the pool and then we three gals went for breakfast on the beach at Zabors. It was fun mother daughter bonding time. 😊

The ocean has a lot more waves today so there's all sorts of jet skis out, parasailers, kite boarders and wind surfers and so it's really pleasant just to sit and watch the world go by from our balcony. It's so quiet and serene here; out of the 21 condos here, it seems only 6 are occupied, though I expect it will start to get busy this coming week...It's been nice having the pool and beach to ourselves making for a nice quiet holiday.

In the afternoon I took a walk & bought a light Cuban hat and I happened to find a beautiful upscale liquor store close by, that sells an extensive array of wines, Champagne (the real deal), Prosecco, Scottish whiskey, bourbon, liquors, liquers etc. I've never noticed it before, and I was happily surprised to see the prices were in keeping with Mega and Walmart but there's so much more selection. For those of you who visit Playa, the store's name is La Europea and it's on 5th ave & 8th (this is for my sister Cindy, brother Barry & Anne B. & Debbie H. who enjoy Playa as much as we do too! Tips on food & drink are always welcomed by us...

Al & I enjoyed another yabba dabba doo massage on the beach, and for me the best one yet. I still marvel you can get a massage for $20 here & I plan on getting a few.

Al's parents arrived at 3:30 so the maids had been in, they put fresh sheets on all the beds, swept, polished, fresh towels, dishes done & they made everything shiny and clean. You are just treated so well here by the staff; they can't do enough for you and it really adds to the ambiance, atmosphere and our love of staying at Luna. We do tip them generously for all the special treatment. Fresh sheets everyday? Good lord I'm in heaven.

Again hoping you all had a fabulous Canada Day. See pics we posted below...We're down a week, only a couple more to go...yeeehaw!! Today we're heading to Yal Ku lagoon which is in Akumal. Jaime our driver has an 11 person van so off we go. Will post more later, if you can stand it!!! (PS thanks for your comments!)

Under this flag may our youth find new inspiration for loyalty to Canada; for a patriotism based not on any mean or narrow nationalism, but on the deep and equal pride that all Canadians will feel for every part of this good land. - Lester Pearson
