Hello Texas.
Today's drive was a short 280 miles in beautiful weather, there was a little wind but nothing much to write about. Right after leaving NM, the landscape quickly shifted from desert to grasslands then rolling hills to the flatest land we've seen on the trip. I'm not sure if it is due to lower altitude, but our mileage returned to 8.5 MPG. On the way into Colorado, the milage dropped to 8.4 MPG, not sure I can explain the difference. The Camp Boss MPG has historically been 8.5 whether I tow a vehicle or not.

Today we were about 20 miles from Amarillo when we happened upon a mile-long feed lot w/ thousands of cattle just waiting around...before I could turn off the vent/AC the smell reached Mi Hyon. And I guess you could say it made a HUGE impression on her!!! There are times when not being able to smell is a good thing and I'm sure this was one of them :-) It took at least 4 hours for her to get over the experience, she can smell foot prints of people an hour after they've left so this must have been quite a shock.

We reached the park at about 1:30 and set up the rig. The RV park is a good overnight stop and for the first time in several days we have grass! Not much grass, but at least enough for Maggie to do her business. We had a great lunch and then headed out to the Cadillac Ranch. We were left w/ two lasting impressions: 1) The rancher's artistic expression is really something to see and tourists have expressed themselves by spray painting every inch of the cadillacs. I'm sure the levels of paint are many times thicker than the metal of the cars. The sight is a true American icon. 2) We were equally impressed/depressed by the mass of littler left by an uncaring American public, the entire sight is littlered w/ spray cans, water bottles, snack boxes etc. We found piles of trash thrown within 10 feet of an empty dumpster! The rancher could charge to visit the sight, but doesn't and is rewarded w/ hundreds of pounds of litter!

After Cadillac Ranch, we visited Big Texan Steak House, w/ its 72 oz steak challenge. It is a really neat steak house and I'm told an international destination. After our cattle experience, Mi Hyon didn't have any desire for eating steak. We took some pictures and headed back to the rig and took a nap. We both caught up on rest today and head out to Dallas tomorrow.

This feed lot ran for a mile. Instantly turned Mi Hyon into a vegan. Sure glad Mike can't smell!
