Discovered the meaning of "catching the red eye" after our overnight flight from LA to Boston - we were knackered. Lack of sleep and a heavy rucksack meant Sara had an afternoon snooze whilst I perused the local area around the university, music school and Fenway Park (home of the currently topnotch Boston Redsocks Baseball team). Hostel left alot to be desired despite the rates for sharing a 6 bedded dorm and skanky showers!! The next day took a tour around Harvard University and went out for Turkish food (recommended by the Zagat and the Lonely Planet). Despite the nice meal I suffered from food poisoning - the effects of which lasted for several days. Memories of other travels to Egypt and being attached to a drip were never far from my mind!!

Sara amused herself by doing the Freedom Trail and of course the inevitable trip to the cinema (Sin City - Saras hot tip!!). The thought of carrying the back packs in my condition was not too appealing so taxi for the girls to the station was ordered!!

Took the bus to the town of the Kennedys (Hyannis - Cape Cod). We arrived here just before the start of the summer season so although our accommodation was cheaper alot of the town was still closed for business. Our accommodation was right by the ferry port and we headed to beautiful Nantucket - lighthouses, beaches, wood shingled houses and a historic main street and harbour. As it was quiet we decided to take a risk and hire mopeds in the afternoon to see more of the island. After we passed our "driving test" we became Biker Chicks for the afternoon and terrorised the streets of Nantucket.

US public transport not being great we eventually made our way to Newhaven - home of Yale. Hired a very small car the following day (Junior Chuck) and made our way to Mystic (home of Mystic Pizza - where we had to sample a slice of heaven!!). Seaport and old Mystic were lovely but Olde Mistick Village was just manufactured, full of tat and very dissappointing.

Sampled the student night life of New Haven, got asked for ID and from a quiet couple of beers the night rapidly progressed........................
