Again a limited lie in due to people trailing in and out of the dorm, but overall it is a very productive day – getting the blog up to date, emails and doing some more work on some bits which may help the ‘kids restore the kelper’ project I am working on. Chatting to some other people in the hostel whilst working, and one of them (who was English) decided he was going to cook a roast dinner this evening, so a group of us went in on it – something yummy to look forward to later.

In the afternoon I headed to DOC (Department of Conservation) here, and picked up the pool car which had been allocated to me. When I got in the car I found it was an automatic – never driven one before but luckily it isn’t too hard to get….it’s like cheat driving! I then drove half an hour out of town to another primary school – Manaroa to help and see what they do in their ‘Down the Bank’ play. It was very interesting – a continuation of what the children do at Kindergarten, and I got involved, helping saw pallets etc. I am seeing lots of thing here which I would love to bring back and try to implement in the UK – especially for the younger primary school ages.

In the evening we had our chicken roast dinner with all the trimmings – roast potatoes, veg and even Yorkshire puddings! Yum yum, and as there was six of us it only came to $5 each….bargin! The six of us then decided we would head out and see in Te Anau had anything to offer us in the form of night life. Apparently the Ranch is the place to head to, if anywhere, and we were in luck as it was jam night! Our group seemed to swell in numbers, and we had a great eve, chatting and later dancing away to the music of the band and then the DJ. Two of the guys – the Isralie brothers joined the band to jame for a while and were so good the band asked them to stay and join in playing all night….so they did, and then one guy took the mic to sing a little birthday ditto to Simon – whos birthday it turned out to be tomorrow! We all ended up rolling in around 1.30am, so for a tiny town, with limited activity, we actually managed to have a great night!
