Monday we went down to Big Pine Key where we did laundry and bought groceries. We saw one of the little Key deer crossing the highway.
Tuesday was a drizzly kind of day. We managed to get a softball game completed with only a few sprinkles early on. We had more rain in the afternoon, but not gully washers. Kerry went to Big Pine Key for pizza for supper and called me on his way back to tell me there was a rainbow over the ocean. I grabbed my bike and camera and rode to the beach on the Atlantic Ocean side to take pictures. The rainbow made a complete arc from the ocean over the island to the Florida Bay. It seemed brighter on the bay side, so I rode over there for more pictures. I couldn’t get the whole rainbow in one shot, but it sure was special to see.
Wednesday we moved from Bahia Honda to Curry Hammock SP. We’ll be here until March 6 then head to Miami Springs and then home. Curry Hammock is much more peaceful than Bahia Honda or Long Key. The sounds of the traffic on
US 1 are not as obvious here, and it’s a smaller campground, only 28 camp sites. They have a very nice day use area and the beach is close by both the campground and the day use area. On windy days there are lots of kite boarders launching from the day use area with their colorful kites. We walked on the beach and found a dead sea turtle. So sad.
We had another fun softball game on Thursday. The town of Marathon is renovating the ball fields, so we started playing on the soccer field on Tuesday. We were amazed how quickly they scraped away the old sod on the fields Tuesday, and watched on Thursday as they began leveling the infields. The soccer field has nice grass and way fewer low spots to trip you up or cause unpredictable bounces.
Friday Jeff and kids, Bella and Sebastian (neighbors and friends from home,) came for the afternoon. Kirsten, Jeff’s wife, is taking a swimming instructor course in Coral Springs, so Jeff and the kids were at loose ends. We enjoyed watching the little ones play on the beach and in the playground at the day area. It did
Rain coming
Bahia Honda our hearts good to be around small children since we are really missing our grandkids and our grown up kids, and Jeff and all are practically family to us, too.
Yesterday afternoon my brother, Herb, and sister-in-law, Pam, came down for a visit. We walked on the beach and sat and talked before going out for supper. After supper we went down to the day use area, where there were a couple of telescopes set up. One gentleman was very informative about the constellations and pointed his telescope at Jupitor so we could see its moons. We also got to see nebula and a close up of the nearly full moon’s mountains. We watched a couple of satellites fly over, too, but not through the scopes. Herb and Pam stay until around 9, worrying Mom, who didn’t know whether to worry about their dog or not.
This morning is hot and humid, and lacking the cooling breezes.
