2nd day - 25 May 2006, Thursday - Angkor Wat

The best time to visit Angkor Wat is in the morning for sunrise and evening for sunset. “Early bird can eat the worm”, in order to be an “early bird” we have to wake up on 5.00am Cambodia time (6.00am Malaysia time).

We took a “tuk-tuk” to the main attraction Angkor Wat.

The outer limit of the temple is set by its broad moat. We passed the long causeway that over the moat and lead us to the entrance. As we crossed over the entrance we saw something unbelievable! Wow…..at this time already crowed with many tourists. Nevertheless, we couldn’t deny that although we watched the temple from far, but we still can experience the magnificent of the building - The Great Angkor Wat.

We walk forward and stopped in front of a small lake which is a popular location to take photos. The reason being is in the early morning sunshine right behind the temple posted the reflection on the lake. After that, we entered into the main temple building and plan to highest level to snap some sunrise photo before its end. We reached to the last inner enclosure of the temple and looked at the staircase and wonder why the staircase design is so unique…??? The gradient is so steep and the step is not enough to fit to our foot size… what to do … we have to climb with extra precaution. On top, when we looked down it was fantastic view.

After a short stay upside there, we came down to look for a wash room. We managed found a so called “private toilet” besides the main building because the public toilet located at the main road. The “private toilet” cost us close to RM1.00 per person. So EXPENSIVE!

The next activity was to see the bas-reliefs which cover the exterior wall of the Angkor Wat’s third enclosure. Bas-relief is one of the most famous creations of Khmer art. It was carved with old Hindu stories on the wall and I take it as the best part of the whole temple. Although we didn’t understand the actual meaning of all these story, but it was interesting. After that we continued to discover the other sites within the temple.

We spent our whole morning (about 4 hours) over there. The weather became hot and hotter and we decided to take a rest. We went to Arun Restaurant to take our breakfast + lunch. The information search in internet, Arun restaurant can cook the best “Amok” (Fish/Chicken) - USD 3.50 in Siem Reap. Hence we think that we can not miss the chance to try it out. This “Amok Fish” is served in a coconut shell…Emm…..heavy ‘santan’ taste. The taste was pretty good if compare with the Amok we ordered yesterday in Red Piono. Beside that, here we also found a cheap and nice Fruit Shake. Only cost USD 0.60.

We back to guesthouse after lunch for a short rest before another visit to Ta Prohm in the late afternoon.

Unfortunately there was a rain in the afternoon. So, original plan postponed to next day. We were very tired and sleepy after the early wake up in this morning, so we fall asleep until evening.

Once again we took our dinner at the most happening location in Siem Reap - Pub Street and enjoyed the night life atmosphere.
