Today we first visited Loch Ness. The loch isn't very wide but it is incredibly deep--almost a thousand feet deep. The rocks that Charles skipped into the loch had a long way to descend after their final bounce. At the Official Loch Ness Monster Visitor's Center we watched and interesting presentation about the history of the Monster. I have included a clip of part of this presentation. It was very psychedelic. During it a strange whitish smoke was piped into the room. I'm not saying that the gas that filled the room was derived from a certain weed that grows along the loch, but afterwards I had the munchies and ate a bag of haggis-flavored Doritos.
Urquhart Castle was nice castle that is now in ruins. It was blown up in 1692 as the last occupant escaped. He probably lost his security deposit.
Next we took a drive to Glen Cannich. The road were very narrow and but the only one we had to share the road with was some cattle. The stag that we saw had sense enough to stay off the road.
For dinner we ate at a pizzeria. The pizza was great. I ordered a
porter to go with it and the waiter told me that it was very strong and that I should reconsider my choice. I told him I could handle it. The beer was dark, but I have had stronger. Charles ordered gin. The waiter asked "just gin?" Charles told him "gin and lemonade." The waiter smiled a bit and left. I have a feeling that gin and lemonade is a woman's drink in Scotland...kind of like light beer is in the States. As we left the pizzeria I asked the chef if he ever considered making haggis pizza. In response the chef reached onto his cutting board and picked up a menacing-looking knife; a response not unlike that of King James I of Scotland when he was asked a similarly smart-ass question.

Urquhart Castle reminds me of the Castle ruins at Tintagel, the Birth place of King Authur. Remember our visit to that area Jeff?
