Had to be done, lovely magical Maketu, just had to go back again, it's not the most beautiful beach I have seen but the whole place has such a great atmosphere, it's like something from the sixties, everything is very laid back, relaxed and frankly wonderful. It's difficult to explain really but the place just has a really lovely feel to it. Only managed to stay for one night but my cabin was right on the beach, so was able to lie on the bed listen to the sea and watch the sun go down and the full moon rise. Just a perfect evening. Bliss.

Next day on the road to Ohope a much bigger town than I was expecting but nice, a harbour and lovely beach. from there headed towards Gisborne once again a biggish town so enquired about a campsite at the information centre which I have to say are very good here. The journey from Ohope to Gisborne was through a gorge which went on for about fifty miles, a bit scary as there were huge bolders by the side of the road and part of the road was being rebuilt due to a landslide. Still it was a lovely drive I only saw about thirty cars on the whole journey which took about two and a half hours. Tonight I am stayin at Tatapouri where I can sit in the car and write my blog whilst listening to the sea and watching the tide come in. Nothing here except a campsite and a beautiful landscape. Tent a few feet away from the beach. Lovely!!

Hi from Peggy
Alison has just read me your latest blog. I am very envious of the hot sunny weather you are having - wet and windy here for weeks! Love from Auntie Peggy x
