Sydney - the first 48 hours

I could sum up this blog entry in 3 words: I LOVE Australia!!!!

This country is incredible. I love the vibe, the culture, the lifestyle, the weather.... Feeling quite settled already. There's so much I want to see and do here, making my way round as much of the country as I can. Currently just 48 hours in And already know this is the best thing I've ever done, and barely started.

The first day here we checked into the hostel (actually really nice) and just explored the local area surrounding us. Being Brits, and travellers, we of course then headed to the nearest pub. later we headed back to the hostel for a BBQ and I had my first taste of Kangeroo. It was just the same as a beef steak really, maybe just slightly chewier. In the evening we headed next door to Skubar - a bar seemingly made for backpackers. Had such an amazing night out: crab racing, lots of gin, dancing, then a midnight trip to Bondi beach. I wasn't behave enough to run into the sea like some were though. Was a bit chilly for me, I was happy for just a paddle :-)

Yesterday we did the opera house and the harbour bridge and that's when it hit me I'm really here. After dreaming of Oz for at least 4 years to actually be here and see the landmarks was so overwhelming. My eyes welled up a little as I stared across at the opera house in awe.

As for today, it's been quite 'admin'. I've opened my Aussie bank account, sorted a mobile number out and am about to write my CV. After paying $3.50 for chewing gum yesterday (about £2.25) I figured I need a job sooner rather than later. Looking forward to settling into Aussie life, working, thetar making my way up the east coast.

Not homesick at all yet. Feeling like an Aussie as I sit here in my 'thongs' and ordering a sch of beer and a packet of salt and vinegar chips. Loving it. Love to everyone back home!
