Cozumel is a fantastic place, we feel very lucky to be able to spend two full months here. It's a little difficult to rate the best of the best, but here's what we put together for our top ten faves:

1. The weather. The days are usually hot, but not too hot, (average around 28C) and sunny with a bit of cloud, which makes it perfect to do almost anything. The mornings are cooler as are the evenings. There are hardly any insects! I don't think you can find a nicer climate anywhere!

2. The ocean. The water is warm and clear. Generally the waves on the beach sides are not too big - just right. The salt water offers healing and calming qualities, somehow you just feel so good after a dip that it's hard to describe. (By the way, Ian rates the ocean #1 and weather #2 in his personal list, but since I do the typing, I get my way 😉

3. Scuba diving and snorkeling. As I've mentioned before, Cozumel is one of the top diving spots in the world with its many coral reefs. For many visitors to Cozumel, this would be favorite point #1 instead of #3.

4. The beaches. Our favorite beach is at Punta Sur, it's super clean, white sand, turquoise water and breathtakingly beautiful. In fact, it's the nicest beach we've ever been to. The $12 park entry fee is definitely worth it. After that, we prefer Planacar Beach then Paradise.

5. Food & drink. Cozumel is a great place to eat. There's everything your heart, I mean stomach, desires whether you buy it to cook yourself or go out and be served. If you've read any of our blogs, you'll notice how food is often a topic of our conversation. We've had some amazing meals, both here in our condo and out in restaurants. Before we leave, we'll blog again and rate our top favorite spots to eat out in Cozumel.

6. Reasonable prices. You can find very reasonable accomodations and car rentals in Cozumel as opposed to other tropical destinations that are so much more expensive, like Costa Rica or Hawaii. You get expectional value for your money here. Some things cost the same here as they do at home, like electronics for example. Going out to eat is sure a lot cheaper, groceries are about half the cost and the quality is actually better than where we shop in Nelson, BC. Liquor and beer is also a lot cheaper. Ian has found a new favorite tequila called Tres Generationes (Three Generations,) it's made right here on the Island. Cheers!

7. People and culture. Everyone here loves Cozumel, whether they are just visiting or live here full-time, everyone's happy and in a good mood all the time - it's contagious! You don't have to worry if you can't speak Spanish, you can get away with just a few words and there's usually someone nearby who can speak a little English. We also just love the heritage, arts and culture of Cozumel which you can't miss since it's all around you all the time!

8. Accessibility. Cozumel is closer than you think! Our flight from Spokane stopped briefly in Denver where we changed planes, but our flight in total was 5 hours in the air. You can't beat that to get to such an amazing place!

9. Cozumel is totally safe. Beacuse there's been some negative publicity about Mexico in general in this regard, I've blogged before about how it is totally safe here in Cozumel, unlike how we felt in Costa Rica last year. We feel very comfortable with our personal safety, we would not hesitate to recommend travel here to our friends or family and we'll defintely come back again.

10. Ambiance. There is a feeling that you get here in Cozumel, Ian and I call it 'Cozu-mellow', it's very laid back, peaceful and stress-free. We work our buns off most of the year, so this is a fantastic place to just lay back and unwind and let all our worries just fade away.

Best things about Cozumel
We agree with all you say about Cozumel. Wishing we had spent our recent three nights in Mexico in Cozumel rather than Cancun.
