6.-12. May

The final week in Philippines was ahead of us and we were more than excited to spend it on Palawan, lying on the beach, island hopping and having good fun hanging out in bean bags. We settled ourselves in nice little bungalows on El Nido's far end of the bay, across the street to Rosanna's cottages. The bungalows had everything we wanted (ok, except the view) – beautiful little porch, loads of tropic vegetation and a nice owner. The first day we took the tricycle to what supposed to be the nicest beach in the area – Corong Corong – not really! After a bit of struggle we got a kayak for rent at Greenviews Resort and left for the secluded beaches, discovering the beautiful scenery from the water. We finally arrived to the most beautiful beach, completely empty, turquoise water, palms, us two… and millions of tiny little black jellyfish!?! That’s right… it was the first time we saw it so of course we were dead-scared going into the water. All we ended up doing at the beautiful paradise beach was turning around and heading back to town… later on we found out the jellyfish was completely harmless… well who would’ve taught… We continued to Marimegmeg beach where we stayed for the day.

In the evening, while drinking the best mango smoothie in front of La Banane hostel, we met a big group of folks wanting to do an overnight island hopping trip. We were immediately up for it so the next morning we were already sharing 2 bankas with a bunch of funny people from all over, France, Israel, Canada, Spain. The whole trip was amazing, specially watching the sunset, having bonfire, playing drinking games, swimming under the stars (mind the mosquitoes and sand flies). The next day though we were sleep-deprived, hangover, seasick, sunburned and beaten by all sorts of flies… not a really good combination for spending another day on a boat :J It was a superb experience and also a way to see how being on the show Survivor feels like!

The next day we rented a motorbike to explore the north part of the island. Unfortunately the tropics are not called such for nothing… it started pouring so the bike trip wasn’t as pleasant as it should be.

We left for Puerto Princessa in the morning, finishing off our Palawan experience with a famous halo-halo ice cream desert… which was probably the reason for the worst food poisoning ever and as a result the most painful plane ride in the history of our travel.

3 weeks were coming to end and we had 2 days left in Manila to get some souvenirs and do some well-deserved shopping.

Overview: Philippines offered a lot more than we expected. It was a perfect get-away for 3 weeks and a quick dose of culture, kind and interesting people, adrenaline, superb diving and good fun.

Too bad about that halo halo
Must be the ice shavings (water) used in your halo halo. My fav drink, btw, but I always ask if they used filtered water if I have foreigners with me. Takes some getting used (the water here). Anyway..... I missed you! We just got back from El Nido and had a wonderful time. Hope all's well with you now.
