Nathan and I went on a great weekend trip up through Arthur's Pass and then to the West coast and North to the Pancake Rocks. It was so beautiful! Now i know i hate the cold but there is something beautiful about a snow caped mountain in the background. The problem is when there is snow on the ground that things get a little...cold if you will. The hike we did through Arthur's Pass was a very nice not to hard 2 hr tramp. But Arthur's Pass is at a very high elevation...meaning snow on the ground. But i did not fall...almost...but i saved myself. There were waterfalls in the distance...just wonderful.
We then headed another hr to the coast and about 2 hrs up the coast to the pancake rocks. The sun was setting the entire drive up the coast...i almost cryed! the ocean, the sun, my best friend, life was grand! We made it to a camp ground and watched the sun set on the beach.
The next day we did the 30 hike around the rocks...pretty cool. And then we headed about 20/30 min more up the coast and did the tourist cave track...harmless right! Oh my gosh.

It was an amazing tramp, but it deffiently had its rough points. The west coast is very tropical, maning lots of moss and slippery rocks...not to good when you are going up and down hills. There where also two rivers we had to cross...yeah that was comical. trying not get too wet, fighting off the sand flies, and trying to be cool infront of Nathan...HA! but made it across with only a few frozen toes and a couple hundred sand fly bites.
But it was all worth it when we got to the end. The trail ended at the entrance of a HUGE cave that was open to the public. we only had one torch (flashlight) so it made it a little tricky but well worth it.
I only fell once on the trip down, nice brused anckle now, but over all amazing. Tramping in New Zealand is like nothing else.
Till next time
