Yesterday we went for a little excursion up the estuary near our new home away from home. We brought along our new American friend Mike. We met Mike on the bus out from Alajuela and ran into him later that week and told him about where we have been staying at the Gardenia Hotel. Anyways, off we go down the beach with me, Karen and Mike and we are looking for Juan - a tour boat operator we spoke with a few days earlier. We had promised Juan if we were to come back and do an estuary tour we would use him. As we were heading up towards the estuary a "tico" introduced himself and asked if we wanted to go for a boat tour. We said no, we promised to use Juan. He of course told us that Juan wasn't working today and he would love to take us in his place. Now my spider senses were tingling (sorry Karen) - he smelled like booze and was loud and a little over whelming. Not my first choice for a nature tour guide. Anyways the more he talked the more we warmed up to him so we agreed to use him. Off we went to his boat which was sitting at the mouth of the tidal estuary. So in jumps "George" our tour operator and Karen follows closely behind with the first step landing her up to her butt cheeks in quicksand. With a little wiggling she was able to free herself. Now she has a new nickname - "Quicksand Karen".

Anyways the trip was amazing. The tide was out so the boat kept getting stuck on the bottom as we left. We saw an American Crocodile and millions of land crabs and some very cool birds. The best part was getting out of the boat and walking for 10 minutes to see the howler monkeys. Check out our videos and photos!!

As George aggrivated the monkeys (as you can see from the videos) they tried to get their revenge by jumping to the branch in the tree directly above us and peeing! We had to scramble to stay out of their way. One of the mama's had a little baby on her back. In total their was about 5 or 6. Apparently one male and the rest were females.

Love to all. videos and pictures below.
