After spending a few days in Nimbin i had a crazy idea that i could hike all the way back to Byron Bay. Armed with a novelty map and a few days rashions i headed off solo into the mountains in the hope that i will find the ocean. I was so wrong! It didnt seem that long a way perhaps only about 50 km however i didnt expect that the majority of it would be uphill and steep aswell. After meeting a crazy man who told me the whole track had been closed off and that there were evil bunyips up there ( see Australian folklore ) I was determined to press on. Anyhow after the first day i was already completly exhausted and decided to camp anywhere i could find. It was next to impossible to light a fire due to the fact it being a rainforest and everything naturally being wet i did manage to light one for at least a short period of time. After night broke i dared not go outside my tent as al sorts of strange noises and creatures were probing and prodding my tent. My water supply was dwindling and no water

was in sight.

On the second day I came across the most bizarre creature I have ever seen - a blue lobster type creature, that just sat in the middle of the track! I thought it was a joke and must be plastic so i decided to prod it with a stick and it reared back and started to hiss! I promptly moved along without disturbing it anymore but found the track getting harder and harder as trees fallen over it made it extremely difficult to cross. Eventually the track ended on a sheer cliff face and i would of continued had it not been for a complete loss of water. Feeling the dissapointment of failure i headed back to Nimbin however i was glad to be still healthy and having contended with nature and big mountains with heavy pack would be ready soon enough for the next round... At least I got some good photos!

Your blue friend
That's just a 'Yabbie' or freshwater lobster. They're everywhere in throughout Australia. I grew up harvest them from local property dams...Yummy!!
