Edit Blog Post
Hello everyone,
You may ask: Why is Nick updating his blog when he is coming back in just over two weeks? What are these wondrous pictures he has uploaded? Why does he look so handsome even in a mask? Sadly I can only answer some of these questions. Some are secrets known only to the cosmos.
So, it has been a long time since my last update. Lots has happened, mostly good, apart from the Melbourne weather which continues to be as unpredictable as England itself – cold and wet. Please be warm when I come to visit, England. Please.
But I will not bombard you with all manner of details, but merely provide you with the highlights and some random pictures of said events.
Andy and Clair
The first honeymoon couple (no, not ever) to arrive in Melbourne, in February. We had a good old knees up on the Friday night, consisting of a good meal, several very good drinks, borrowing Andy’s wedding ring for a few moments (it was beautiful while it lasted, Clair!) and some dodgy dancing in an equally dodgy club. After a spot of breakfast the next morning, which included a menu
item listed as “Andy’s sausage”, we headed to Philip Island and took a look around the place. Philip Island has one of the largest seal colonies next door to it, wallabies roaming free, and is also home to the Penguin Parade, where you can sit on steps leading to the beach and watch the penguins come out of the sea, waddling up beside you as they go back to their nests. And then they make noise like a cat being thrown in a boiling pot. Cute, no?
Big Day Out
Each state has a Big Day Out music festival for a day, so I popped along with some friends to see a bunch of bands. The weather was awesome and the music pretty good too. I think my favourite part was how down to earth Kasabian were, how they connected with the crowd, with their front-man informing us, “You are listening to the mighty Kasabian”. Good job.
Matt and Kat
March brought the second honeymoon couple to sunny Melbourne and another night of dinner and drinks was embarked upon. Sadly for me I turned up to dinner an hour before everyone else. I felt compelled to drink beer
until the others turned up to suppress my embarrassment of sitting alone. Somehow I coped. The others, including a very drunk Tucker, fell by the wayside as Matt and I soldiered through the evening with a combination of drink and dance. We ruled the night. McDonalds were truly blessed with our presence in the early hours of the morning.
Mornington and Hanging Rock
I took a couple of road trips with my friends John and Hannah, to Mornington Peninsula and also to Hanging Rock. Both were very picturesque and we had good weather for each trip. We did not, however, have a picnic at Hanging Rock. That would have been stupid.
New Zealand
I also popped to New Zealand for a couple of weeks to start training up a new starter at work and managed to get out to Mount Eden which is around the city of Auckland, and is an old (and pretty small) volcano that is now completely grassed over, but I can now say it is the second volcano I have climbed. Vesuvius was more impressive, and Mount Eden didn’t have glittering Buddha statues for sale at the top, but it was pretty cool nonetheless.
Promotion
I recently accepted a promotion at work to Technical Account Manager which has changed my plans a little bit. I'm now staying in Melbourne until the end of the year, taking four months off for some trips, and then coming back to Melbourne at the end of April. After that, who knows, time will tell, no real plans, all that jazz. I think I will be back for good towards the end of 2013. Watch this space!
Fancy Dress
My fetish continues. The most recent excuse was Susha's birthday and the girls opted for an Op Shop (Charity Shop) Masquerade Ball. It was as ridiculous as it sounds, and managed to purchase a very nice suit, shirt and hat from Savers, and a fake glasses/nose/moustache combo that is both awesome and awesome. Which makes it awesome squared.
And that is about it. Well, I suppose it's not, but it is certainly a good start. Enjoy the pictures.
See you all soon,
xx
