My own little piece of heaven
Today was our big shopping day in Chinatown. We love the shopping there because everything is cheap (for the most part) and little trinkets can be picked up.

We started the day in a store just outside of town that was my own personal heaven. I saw a sign that said "yarn" and just HAD to check it out. The store was lovely and makes and dyes all their yarns. It took me awhile to pick one out but I finally decided on a multicoloured cotton fibre. Really nice.

From there we browsed a few stores on our way to find lunch. Alisa wanted "authentic" Chinese food, not the stuff you get in the States. We decided on a place called House of Dim Sum. It was only $5.99 each for all you can eat dim sum and lunch buffet. I thought the food was great. I was careful about what I got and only took things I recognized whereas Alisa wanted to try everything. That mixed with the unclean bathroom and eating too much left Alisa not feeling so good. We decided to head back to the hostel for a break as I was also feeling dehydrated and we both wanted to relax and put our feet up.

We did eventually get back to Chinatown and do more shopping. I did very well for myself. All together I got 4 scarves, a Chinese Lantern night light, short bath robe, long bath robe, chrysanthamum and wild rose loose leaf teas, a cable car magnet, sunglasses, chop sticks, sushi rolling mats, pillow cases and a lattern. So excited about my purchases.

We also found the place that invented furtune cookies and watched them make them. The machine pours the dough onto little grittle pans that also close from the top then circle through an oven. Once they come out the other side, she grabs them and puts a furtune in the middle then folds it. We wouldn't have even found it unless we had turned down the random side alley where we did. Very cool. We bought a bag of 6 to take with us too.

We also found a bubble tea place for some yummy drinks and for dinner shared a bowl of soup with thick homemade noodles. So good!

Tomorrow we have tickets for Alcatraz in the morning. So looking forward to that! Alisa's computer has died so this was all written on my phone and takes a lot longer. I can't promise another entry until I'm home but we'll see.
