Wow, is my first impressions of Kathmandu. Arrived at the airport a couple of hours ago, and everything hits you - the smell, the heat, the people, the colour, the noise. Finally got out of the small brick building (baggage claim) a little late. Got picked up by my programme organiser and headed to the gueshouse where I'm staying and currently blogging from. The ride was pretty amazing for having been in the country about half an hour. The streets are packed with so many people, some at work, some chilling, school kids etc, and not to mention the amount of traffic. You just see people on their motorcycles driving everywhere and oh there's no conduct of driving rules or laws or anything. If you see an empty bit of road - use it, some try to use unempty bits too and then there's a whole stream of horns. As I'm writing now, all I hear is honking! On the whole people seem generally quite nice, and my gueshouse is in a small street but it's quite nice and homely. Nice to get away from most of the main town traffic encountered on the way to the guesthouse. About to grab some awaited food, and then head out to the streets of Thamel. Tomorrow I'll be on my way to Pokhara, so I'll be blogging then I guess, and oooh I'll try to upload photos.
