Paradise Island

Made it to Belize! This country is so different than Guatemala in both language and culture. It's probably the most laid back place I have ever been. After arriving in Belize city, I took a water taxi to Caye Caulker. This is a tiny reef island about an hour off the coast. The island has only three dirt roads: front st, middle st, and back st. You can walk anywhere you want in less than 20min, there are no cars just golf carts. The three of us found a beach front hotel for $10/person. Surprisingly, this is the first place I've stayed at that has hot and cold water. After exploring the island a bit, we walked up to the north side of the island where a hurricane back in the 60's or 70's split the island in two. It is now a nice little beach with a bar. Pretty much if your not out snorkeling or scuba diving, your drinking rum out of coco nuts and hanging out on the beach.

The next day, we arranged a snorkeling tour. We got on a speed boat and went out to the barrier reef. The first stop was Shark & Ray Alley. The water was clear turquoise color, about 5ft deep, and filled with Nurse Sharks and Sting Rays. You just walk around and they rub against your feet, the captain picked up a shark(~5ft) and a ray to show it to us up close. The next two stops were Coral Reefs. We spend about 2 hours exploring the reef and returned to the island. The following day was spent relaxing on the island and enjoying the freshly caught sea food.

I am now back in Belize City and taking a ferry to Honduras. I believe it's a 6 hour boat ride.

Sharks
Sounds like you're having an awesome time and I'm completely jealous! Weren't you terrified when you were swimming with the nurse sharks? I remember you in Thailand being less than happy about the huge schools of fish, I can't imagine how it'd be with sharks instead.
