Driving into Fort Union National Monument
From Megan's point of view:

We woke up today with the sun shining and hardly any clouds in the sky. We didn't go to to the brewery and decided to just get out of town and to Fort Union New Mexico. A few miles from Fort Union, we started to see lightning and heard thunder. We pulled off the freeway and started heading toward the fort and the storm. When we arrived, you could see the forts and the storm heading towards us. As we got inside, the ranger told us to take caution if we are going out, and go at your own risk. We decided to try to go through the fort and make it before the storm came in. About halfway there, the thunder and lightning was right by the fort. My papa and uncle decided to go through while my mom, brother and I all went over to the hospital. The hospital was the only one is the Southwestern region. After we finished looking at the hospital, we walked over to the 8 oxen wagon train and got to look inside. Then we went inside to look through the museum of articfacts and the information was

very interesting. When we finished, we decided to go through the fort again, because we thought the storm had past. I guess we were wrong because halfway out there again, it started to hail. We decided to keep walking thinking the hail and rain would stop, we walked to the first fort, the married mens fort and the hail kept getting worst. My grandma and I decided to go back, while the rest of us kept going. Then my dad and brother came running up, saying we need to go back. About halfway back, a huge thunder cloud errupted right above us. So then we ran back to the museum with tons of hail coming down. I just loved the fort even though i didnt see much of it. Over all this place was amazing, and so was the storm.

sounds like a very exciting day. Glad you got to see as much as you did. I love thunder storms, but don't like being out in them. I remember being chased down the freeway in Iowa once. Scary! You are very lucky to take a trip like this. Sounds like everyone is having great time. Have fun, fun and more fun!! Take lots of pics.
