We walked 23km today. Another very cold day.....I still have a cough all tho it hasn't got any worse but am tired and don't really feel like walking today. The first town we came to we stopped and had a coffee and a bread roll with bacon egg and tomato with some herbs...tasted pretty good.....They have great fresh crunchy bread and pastries....We have got into the habit of buying 2 bread sticks today for tomorrow so its not crunchy when we get to it..and we always share one and carry the other for about 3 days then get sick of carting it around then decide to throw it away...then do it all over again...think we would work it out....did eventually ....started buying one stick and eating the following day...no wastage but still no crunchy bread. Jacqui asked for snow as we were walking to the bar...and it did for about 5min.....I think we were the only one's that noticed it....It was soooo cold. Put my Ipod on for the first time...It help to finish the last few km...amazing what music can do Arrived at Granon and yes had to walk up a hill then some stairs.....seems like thats a criteria...albergue on top of a climb.
We found this amazing old church where the back of it had been converted to an albergue.....We climbed up some old stone stairs..left our shoes on a window shelf and entered. We were greeted by a lovely old man who sat us down explained that they were a donation only....The rule is donate what you can afford, but if you need then you took what you needed......We were offered a cup of water and was told they didn't supply a stamp for our credencial but we could get one from the pub down the road. The credencial is a pilgrim's passport which we got on day one.....Every albergue has its own unique stamp and the passport gets stamped at every stop. The bars also have their own stamp and we can stamp our passports there as well. At the end of the walk we present our stamped passport for our certificate of completion of the walk..... The old church had such a homely feel....there was a fire burning and we all had our tea together....soup ...maccaroni....cream rice and red wine....a lovely way to finish a hard day of walking....and for the first time I got to boil a kettle and make a coffee with lots of hot water a little amount of milk. it tasted great....and Jacqui had a cup of real tea.... we helped to clean up after tea then went to bed.....The bedroom was in the attic on a thin matteress. We were lucky to be able to grab two matteress to sleep on but the night was still a restless one. The church bell chimed every hour.
My ankle has been sore and finally found a farmacia (pharmacy) that sold ankle supports. Am hoping it will help. The next morning we were supplied with breakfast before we left
