Hotel Edda Akureyri
From our window at the hotel
June 21st, Myvatn is our goal today. First the earthbaths with a lovely swim. Everyone felt so relaxed afterwards that many fell asleep on the bus on the way over to Dettifoss, the powermost waterfall in Europe. It is so! amazing. Then back to explore Dimmuborgir (Dark cities or rocks). No one got lost this time like last time with the Halton Outdoor Club. The pseudocraters did not get the proper walk as usually when we do this part of the country, you simply cannot do everything!
And today is Friday. Whalewatching for some of my nice people from Canada, others want to have a look around the town of Akureyri. The wearher is good, 24 centigrades as we get to the abode of the Gods. This is where Odinn, the father of the other Gods, was riding his horse when the horse slipped by accident one of eight legs down on earth and created this fabulous canyon full of trees, birds, nature and eccho. Simply a good day. June 23. Again a beautiful sunny day. Now we go "home to Holar". What a peaceful place. We went up to the tower which is not attached to the church. Enjoyable
visit, but on we need to go to Blonduos, the estuary of the river Blanda ( that is what the name means), a little town concealed in a valley. Gorgeous lunch! Some of us will need to take care of the weight after this tour of good food! The Grey Trouser Lava in 20 centigrades and sun, hike up to the craters took only 30 minutes. A short stop to get the 3-chokolates and coke, the tunnel beneath the sea is a great shortcut to Reykjavik, which we reached at 5 o'clock in the afternoon. Grand Hotel with its happy hour and see you tomorrow . . . .
