More Than Potatoes

Coeur d'Alene Lake, Idaho





We are eschonced in the small lakefront town of Harrison, Idaho. The drive along the shores of Coeur d'Alene Lake has been beautiful. This lake has been compared to Lake Tahoe and for good reason. Both are surrounded by dense forests of pine, spruce and fir and they look very similar in all aspects. Coeur d'Alene lacks the surrounding snow capped peaks, but is still filled with the same clean, clear mountain water for which Tahoe is famous. The burst of the real estate bubble has been really pronounced here in Idaho as I saw a tremendous amount of properties for sale and unfinished development projects as we drove around the Lake. There seems to be alot more calm, protected harbors here and I saw more floating docks and boating activity than at Lake Tahoe.





The town of Harrison is small, but very friendly. There are only two restaurants and neither one is very upscale. We are staying at the Lakeview Inn and it is very nice. Recently remodeled and still under construction the new owners were still working to finish their dream. She was working the front desk, while he cut wood on the table saw and they still had time to give us dining tips while we checked in. Sometimes it is worthwhile to be relaxed and in no rush. They decided after talking for awhile and since we were so nice to give us the big upstairs three room suite for the same price as a downstairs double. Wow, with the balcony on the Lake and full kitchen it really feels great. The suite also had a washer/dryer combo so we are doing some laundry while enjoying a great Napa valley wine we had stashed in the car. Life is good!

Hi, Your trip sounds great. I am going to SunValley ID and staying with my neighbors in July and we are driving up to Couer d'Alene and will play golf on their beautiful course there. Wish you were coming my way. Mary
