As it is our last full day in Banff we really should be making the most of it but we are in can't be arsed moods as we had crap sleep again.
We head down to the Banff museum, it is not much bigger than the cabin we had at bear ranch! but it is very informative and they have a lot of stuffed birds and animals that have been there since it opened in 1903. I was quite shocked at the size of the cougar, glad we haven't met a real one on our travels.
We drive down to Lake Minnewanka and then on to Johnson's Lake. We have been told the walk around this lake is lovely, not too long and no elevation. They lied about the last bit! It was a lovely walk through forest and then along the lake shore, made me think we should have done more walking in other places. We see Bighorn Sheep and a group of Jack Rabbits, I only know that's what they are called as we saw a stuffed one in the museum.
Knackered after our walk so we decide to go
back to the hotel and use the spa before going for dinner. We decide on Chinese, looked it up on the Internet and it had a few reviews that were all excellent. When we got there we were the only English people in there, must be were all the Chinese go for their tea. The food was very good. We wander round the shops and I buy two books on local bear attacks. The guy serving starts up a conversation with us and we couldn't get away from him but he was actually very interesting telling us about his meetings with bears over the years and some local history.
Probably our last blog as we fly tomorrow evening so will be heading down to Calgary after we checkout. To sum up the holiday - it was supposed to be a trip of a lifetime but I know I will definitely be coming back, not to all the places we have been to but the special ones being Vancouver Island and Grizzly Bear Ranch. Ian agrees about the island but thinks we could never top the time at the bear ranch and it would be a mistake to
try to. I disagree! We need to come in September next time to watch the Grizzlies fishing for salmon and go white water rafting on the river. And, if we fly into Vancouver we may as well go and see Coola and Grinder again up Grouse Mountain. May not be for quite a few years but I'm going to do my best to make it happen. The ideal for me would be 2 weeks in Canada then 3 days San Fran and 4 days Vegas or maybe the other way round. I think Ian would change the 4 to a 7 and he'd be happy too. Think we'll have to win the lottery to afford the ideal. Wouldn't bother with Banff, Jasper and Lake Louise again. Been, seen, wouldn't bother again. They are very touristy and after what we did for the first two weeks seemed even more so. We both agree we are ready to leave Banff, probably stayed a day too long and I am really looking forward to George and Benson snuggles.
Hope you enjoyed reading the blogs and seeing the pics I managed to get up, it's been a great way of recording
our holiday.
