Hello again!

Well I arrived safely in Cairns early on Tuesday morning and got a transfer to my hostel, Gilligans. I was sharing a room with 7 other people but this was more than made up for by the fact that the hostel was right in the centre of town, had it's own swimming pool, bar and club and the people in my room were really friendly.

I went out for lunch with Andy, someone I met on the Cambodia tour and then sunbathed for most of the afternoon (fortunately I managed not to burn this time which was rather nice). I had dinner in the hostel and then went out for the night.

On the Wednesday, I had booked myself on a boat trip out to the Barrier Reef to do some snorkelling which was incredible. The coral and the fish were so beautiful and it was a really breathtaking experience. We did two lots of snorkelling on different parts of the reef. In between we were given a lovely buffet lunch and as much tea and coffee as we wanted. I got through about 6 cups of tea because I was shattered! Unfortunately I didn't get any photos because I didn't hire an underwater camera but the memories will always be there.

Thursday was spent on a tour called Uncle Brian's. It is a family run tour with a complete nutter taking you around the local area. He was lovely but chatted constantly and made the group play games and sing songs the whole time in the mini bus. I had so much fun. We walked through some rainforest, slid down a natural rock slide into a pool of water, posed at the millaa millaa waterfall (about 18m high) and swam in a volcanic crater where the water was 65m deep. We got into the water by dangling off a tree that was 5m above the water and then letting ourselves drop in. So much fun!

I got back to the hostel about 8:30pm last night and was on the bus down to Airlie Beach around midnight. I got here at 11:10 and am just waiting to check into this hostel before starting a three day boat tour of the Whitsunday Islands tomorrow.
