The crowd awaits silent and respectful in the pre-dawn stillness. Minutes later a distant rythmic tapping sound gradually gains momentum and is joined by the sharp call which commands the marching veterans.

Applause starts to ripple out through the crowd as the veterans approach, then march proudly up the steps leading to their place on the Court of Honour.

Poignant, moving...the single bugler sounds The Last Post, and flags are lowered - signalling the start of a minutes silence. All retreat to private thoughts, more than a few tears are shed.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them"

"We will remember them"

The bugler sounds again, 'Reveille' proclaiming the belief that the landing of ANZAC troops at Gallipoli heralded the dawn of the nationhood of New Zealand and Australia, anthems of both nations then sung.

Crowd remains standing until the last of the veterans has marched from the ground, applause seeming so inadequate a return for the sacrifices made......

Nicely done Jo!
We too in Canada proudly honour our Veterans with remembrance, they are the reason we live the life we do and can travel freely. We will never forget. Oh and one of my favourite songs is the band played waltzing Matilda by the Pogues...I think it is really amazingly done.

A Really Lovely Tribute
Thanks for sharing this Jo. Your wonderful pictures, coupled with the simple but moving words of this piece made both of us feel quite emotional... almost as if we had been there ourselves.

Many thanks
Telling a photographer you feel emotion when looking at their images is one of the best compliments you can give. Thanks for dropping by !
