Holiday priorities have now changed somewhat. Whilst we both still yearn for the adventure of the unknown we have to consider Heidi as well - and our own sanity when travelling with a little baby - who doesn't want to sit still at all!

Together with Nick being hindered by a recent knee operation (on the day of which Nick found out that he would not be allowed to go swimming on holiday as could not get his wound wet - on hearing this news, I had the upmost sympathy but then also had a little chuckle, of course forgetting that I would then be left to run round after Heidi in the pools....), myself being 4.5 months pregnant, one of us being a student we decided to opt for a last minute deal to Lykia World in Oludeniz, see link below for the Oludeniz resort.

Lykia World

Previously shunning all-inclusive resorts/holidays (until a great trip to Cuba) we decided that they are in fact good value for money, do not restrict you completely to being stuck in resort, and all of the arrangements are made for you. In short, you can relax and not have to think too much about anything!

Heading to Turkey we were expecting good weather, food, and time to chill by the pool, and maybe a mini adventure into the local area for a bit of history and culture - we were not disappointed.

Heidi is now into everything - meaning that asking her to sit still for 5 minutes is an effort - let alone 4 hours on the plane. Despite the grizzling, crying, and fidgeting we made it to the resort without too much trouble - total journey time about 10 hours including the drive to the airport and final transfer. We were one of the most glamorous couples on board both wearing our flesh coloured flight socks, which we had forgot to put on until we were in our plane seats with an inch of leg room. Whilst struggling to put the socks on (Nick had the cheek to ask me to put his on for him as well, so easy with a big bump - I don’t need to tell you my reply) I apologised to our co-passenger explaining I was pregnant and Nick had a recent operation he then replied, "thanks for reminding me, I need to pull mine up!" - That made me chuckle.

After feeding Heidi all that we had to keep her quiet, we arrived in the dark so didn't know what to expect the next morning, we needn't have worried as we awoke to glorious sunshine - not too hot - about as good as an English summer gets and a beautiful resort. Lykia World is totally self-contained, with a back drop of beautiful mountains - Babadag - where they do parasailing - one of the highest launch points in the world - or so the advertising says!

The resort had everything - and was huge - at peak times it housed 3,000 people! As well as the swimming pools, it had a water park for the kids, 17 tennis courts, climbing walls, beach, etc. etc. - just about every activity you could ever think of was catered for - we tried Archery - and Sally was the expert - hitting a bulls eye with her first arrow, and then hitting a tennis ball after that (just to clarify - the tennis ball was attached to the target not being played with on the tennis court) - Robin Hood eat your heart out.

We spent the first few days eating lots - the food was pretty good (for a buffet) and there was a good selection - several restaurants throughout the resort - so we didn't get too bored with the food. Heidi loved it, especially the daily dose of chocolate/caramel ice-cream and a cheeky portion of chips - she commanded attention the minute we arrived in the restaurant and all of the staff were very attentive - to the extent we could let her wonder off knowing someone would bring her back to us eventually!

Most of the days were spent sitting on a sun bed (Nick) and running after Heidi (Sally). We even sent Heidi down a water shoot which she enjoyed (not as much as us watching her face when she surfaced again). They did have a crèche there (included in the cost of the holiday) but I felt guilty leaving Heidi there and only managed an hour of childcare - on reflection I think I was a bit silly as could have done with a bit more time out!

Each evening there was entertainment in the form of dancing shows - pretty good to be honest and Heidi loved watching the dancers in all their costumes, thankfully her sleep pattern changed and she had no problem staying up until 10.30pm - which also meant she slept in until 9am - bonus! She even got up and danced to the music which was quite amusing - spinning around until she was so dizzy she would fall over. Every time she got up she would fall over again - she would not be too good at the drunken broom game!

We did get cabin fever mid-way through the week so had a day trip to a local market - which sold knock off designer rubbish and had quite amusing advertising on the stalls 'cheaper than shoplifting' etc...We had fun exploring all the vibrant fruit and veg stalls, sharing an tea with the locals and exploring the rest of the town/harbour in Fethiye.

We also hired a car for a day which was brilliant. Drove all over the area, visiting the longest beach in Turkey, Roman ruins, gorges, and a ghost town of 200 odd houses that were deserted after the war when the Greeks were expelled. A few hair raising coastal cliff roads kept it interesting - the scenery was stunning.

All in all a great little break, just what we were after, and to top it all off when we returned home we were told it had been raining for the entire time we were away!

Entries will be few and far between from now on; work for Sally, studies for Nick, and number 2 arriving in September will keep us busy for the next few months! But I think we are going to squeeze in a weekend to Paris - mais oui!

You are not traveling like you used to but...
It sounds like your life is full and happy and that is the key to the adventure. This trip looked wonderful. Loved the photo of the garlic.
