THE TEXT FOR THE PREVIOUS ENTRY GOT ALL MESSED UP. THE PHOTOS ARE OK, SO LOOK AT THEM AND THEN READ HERE. THIS IS WHAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO SAY:

Yesterday, Sally took one last photo of a mosaic floor in the Galleria near the Duomo in Milano. Like tossing a coin in the Trevi Fountain to come back, Milano has a similar custom. Well, maybe not so similar. You are supposed to step on the balls of the mosaic bull and spin around for good luck. Our guide said they have to replace that mosaic every couple years.

After very few hours of sleep last night, we left Milano this morning via train heading for Brescia. I think we were too hiped from the opera to sleep. The train was crowded, and Sally and I sat separately, she with an cute elderly couple (probably not a lot older than us) and I sat with a couple, their baby, and her mother, all from Moroco and speaking both Arabic and Spanish, so we could converse a bit. I find it hard to speak Spanish, but I can understand it just fine. I wondered how they decided which language to speak. The mother was an ambassador in Milan.

Brescia dates back to the Roman times and has a lot of ruins. We slept an hour or so when we first arrived and then went to eat at Mangiafuoco, meaning eat fire. It was the sort of place I wanted my sister and her husband to see. Great colors on the walls with wonderful photos! Both Sally and I took a picture of the bathroom which was unisex when you entered and then split into two. Look in the photo to see if you can tell which is which. We both had a glass of wine and pasta with artichokes. Exquisite! I included one photo that was on the bathroom door. Notice the dove on the head of one of the people facing the urinals. Sorry my photo of the photo is so bad.

The dog of the day belongs to one of the ladies who was sitting in a chair out in the street and watching the neighborhood. They take their job as street greeters very seriously. One of them walked us to the restaurant (only half a block) and escorted us inside. We had to use the magic words, the name of our B&B, La Filanda, so we could get a good price on the meal.

With the short sleep the night before, we both crashed for a long nap before heading out to explore. We walked to the church of Santa Giulia, and for those of you who don't know, Giulia=Julia. I'm no saint, but some Julia at some time was. It was raining lightly at first and then a little harder, so we broke down and bought an umbrella, in the photo of Santa Giulia.

After Santa Giulia, I like typing that and saying it, too--we walked up the hill to the Castle, took about two hours, which made us ready to eat again, this time pizza and a drink—Sally had beer and I had wine.

The B&B where we're staying is very special. Sally took a photo of me sitting on the bed. Behind me you can see an exposed part of the wall from the middle ages. It has Plexiglas in over it to protect it and make it smoother for the bed to rest against. We are right in the historic center of town. Lovely! Check out the photo Sally took of two guys riding a bike down the street

Sounds like you're having fun!
I've had two phone messages from Mom, and she really sounds happy to be doing this trip. I love following along on your adventures. When I was in Milan in 1987, the Duomo was "in ristauro," all covered in scaffolding and closed to the public. :( Allora, non l'ho mai visto all'interno. I would show my cats the photos of all these dogs, but I don't think they would appreciate them. We've been having rain here, too, but then this afternoon everything was sunny and beautiful. Our apple tree is in bloom. It's a beautiful time of year to be in Seattle. Carry on! More adventures, please!
