Mon 26th Mar - stayed for one night at Ceduna to do some shopping and get ready for our trip across the Nullarbor. Tom (with Rosemary) the chap who was traveling with us heading back to WA was very keen to travel long distances and we had to slow him down as we did not look forward to the long days driving. He still managed to get us to drive two long days after we left Ceduna. Our first day was 440klms which for us is quite a long day driving. We called into all the lookouts where we took photos of the cliffs of the Great Australian Bight, even though we have seen these before they are still amazing scenery. Where we stayed that night more than made up for the long drive. We were told at a service station that there was this great free camping spot 10klms before the border to WA which had amazing ocean views of the Australian Bight but when we arrived at the site it seemed to just be a dusty road side free camping site. Then we noticed that there was a well worn path heading towards the ocean so John and Tom headed down in our 4WD and caravan to see what they could find and after a while they come back saying the views were amazing. It was a dusty 2klm drive to the spot on top of the cliff with amazing views over the Bight. Tom and Rosemary were a little worried about staying out here because it looked like it might rain and were worried about getting stuck out here. But we settled in for the night, cooked up all our left over vegies (we were going through the quarantine checkpoint first thing in the morning). Because we were still in SA daylightsavings time the sun did not go down until quite late and there was no wind coming from the ocean so the night was just magic. Because Tom planned another long day driving the next day we were up quite early and managed to see the sun rise which was quite spectacular coming up through the cloud cover. This has been the best night stop we have had on our whole trip. It was just magic.
