SantiagoSantiagoSantiago

Hello Chile... but first a cigarette!!
So, after 18 hr flight and dog shit Iberian food have landed in a warm, sunny Santiago.

flew over the Andes and first impressions....WOW. was amazing view but they look very brown. not how I imagined at all. I guess that being half way up Chile, Santiago is nearer to the desert. note to self. pay more attention in Georgraphy classes.

many ways to get to town from airport . Licenced taxi ( very expensive), unlicenced cab, ( super expensive), shuttle bus (so so peso) . Plumped for good old fashioned public transport. crazy bus driver dropped me way past where I shouted I needed to get off and so was a hike back. talking so fast in Spanish I could not understand him.

He dropped me right by a statue of Simon Bolivar (remember him). i think he could become a theme through my blogs

anyways, there was only one thing for it. stand by the statue, roll a cigarette, get the map out, get bearings and some thinking time. Walking along the road towards bme was a wonderful chilian senorita who turned out to be called Leda. "hola, estoy peridio" I said. she was so helpful and, having shown her the map, she was walking that way anyways and walked me to the hostel door. what a result. we sorted of chatted and turns out she is a designer of clothes in Santiago. Simon Bolivar to the rescue.!!

so, her I am at the Princesa Insolenta Hostel. Cannot check in for another 4 hrs but staff very helpful and most people lying around with their laptops nursing a hangover following last nights hostel BBQ.

So, with 4 hrs to kill there is I guess only one thing to do..... slap on the factor 30 and find a bar. I need a beer.

laters all and loving your work.
