Waiheke vineyard tours

Never bike on WaihekeNever bike on WaihekeNever bike on Waiheke

This is an island with many hills, we tried to moutain bike from vineyard to vineyard and well its possible but that day I went up the steepest hill ever and lets just say after going to wine tastings previously its not a good idea.
Waiheke Island is based 30minutes from Auckland by ferry. Its known for the shire quantity of vineyards. After getting into the harbour you can immediately see mountain bike hire rentals, van and car rental companies and scooter hire to get around the island. We hired a mountain bike which I only recommend for the most fittest of people or the most insane people. Reason I say this is that we rented the bikes and didn't quite realise how steep the island can be. The journey from one winery to another after having a tasting session at each place just takes it out of you. I would not recommend hiring a bike that's for sure but the Island is well worth a visit if you are ever in Auckland. The tasting sessions are very informal and each wine is presented with a detailed description. Mud brick, cable bay and Jurassic Ridge were my favorite winery's to visit.

wine!
To think you weren't that keen on wine before - how tastes change for the better - We had a really wonderful meal on the weekend that Steph cooked with all Thai ingredients. We topped it off with a bottle of Milford Point Wine from New Zealand - it was so delicious and went so well with the food. I can see that if you and your mate can't manage wine tasting and riding bikes at the same time - not many could - but I bet you had a laugh at the same time!
