For the past five weeks I have been planning on spending a Saturday off to finish my 2011 Travel the USA with KOA Grand Tour. But between my mother-in-law breaking her hip, the kids’ activities and emergencies at work I never made it. To solve this problem I decided to take a much needed vacation day. In addition to getting my last two needed bonus locations I researched were the Adventure Rider –South Carolina Up-State Tag was located so I could move it along.

I left out after breakfast and headed to Lexington County and easily found my first bonus location in Springdale, SC. I got my needed photo and headed off for Callison, SC which is where the Up-State Tag was located. It took a little work but I finally found the tag sitting just beyond a small pond off Hwy. 67. The tag was the “Chapel in the Pines”. This place was so small I don’t think more than 15 people could have squeezed into it at any given time. And where were the pines?

Next I headed to Greenwood County to the town of Greenwood, SC. This is one of my favorite little southern towns. I lived in the Greenwood/Ninety-six area for three and half years while I

attended Lander College in the mid-eighties. As I rode the back roads of rural Greenwood County, my mind stayed busy remembering the simple life of when I was in college.

As I entered town I easily found the Greenwood town limit sign and got my photo. Another Grand Tour completed! I moved over to the college and decided to move the Up-State tag to the old Bell Tower. Again memories flooded my mind and I left the school with a big smile on my face.

Next stop was the Dixie Drive-In. The number of meals I had eaten here are too many to count. The inside of the place had not changed any in the 25 plus years since I attended college just up the road. Like old times I ordered a Dixie Cheese Half-N-Half. Man was it good. The Half-N-Half part was french fries and beer batter fried onion rings. I filled my belly and headed for home.

Tom and I have visited this unique chapel several times and would like to have a very simple wedding here. Who do we get in touch with concerning this and how much would it cost? Thank you
