The FallThe FallThe Fall

Beautiful colours
So we know we are already home but we need to finish this blog off so here is what we did in Washington D.C;

We were sad to say goodbye to Janice and Helen but we also felt ready for a break; the farm living is a full time job that we are not sure if we could do so we take our hats off to Janice and Helen. The 9 hour journey on Megabus wasn’t too bad; we had free internet and the trees were starting to turn beautiful colours so it was a nice journey.

We arrived late and had not eaten so we found James our couch surfer’s house and then went straight out to hunt for food; James recommended a South East Asian place; kind of fast food but healthy style and really tasty. They served Beer Lao, unfortunately it was only the dark kind so we gave it a miss but we were impressed to see it on the menu. Satisfied with James recommendation, we went back to his and met the French couple; Cindy and Quentin who were also surfing with James. They were just starting out on their trip taking a similar route to us; they were asking a lot of questions and were full of the anxieties we had been a year ago which was funny to reflect back on. They cooked Potato Dauphinoise which we tried and it was delicious and we all watched a couple of episodes of Curb your Enthusiasm before turning in for a night on the floor – eek.

We didn’t sleep too bad, just woke early and then got ready for a day of sight-seeing – we bid our farewells to the French couple and headed out for the day. Our 1st stop was the White House; it was nice to see this grand building and it felt iconic. We then walked to the American History museum and on the way came across the Occupy protestors in the square; it was great to see people actually standing up to the system but we wondered if everyone there, actually knew what they were standing up for? The museum was good but we were already finding it difficult to take much information in and there are loads of museums here – oh no!! We walked to Arlington Cemetery, where a lot of presidents are buried and

Nice blend of asian food
for some morbid reason it is a tourist attraction; it was a nice walk on the way seeing some more of the grand buildings and it was nice to see where JFK was buried. After a day of sight-seeing we went for a much needed beer and then back to James’ apartment; we got a few more beers and sat on his lovely roof top terrace reflecting on the trip which is rapidly drawing to a close. We decided to go out for a beer and found a lively gay bar where we stopped for a few before hitting McD’s for a burger!

We started early again the next day; we donated our air bed to the campers at the protest and then took in the sights of the Capitol Building, Native Indian Museum, Air and Space Museum and Natural History Museum; we were museum’d out by the end of the day. We relaxed that night and watched a couple more Curb’s with James and had an early night ready to catch our bus to New York; the final destination ..

I'm glad you made it home safely...Cheers to you! Next time I'm tipping a cold one back (most likely tonight) I will think of the wonderful conversation my friend Tim and I had with you guys at the Boulder Brewery. CHEERS!
