So after 8 hours in total in the air, I arrived in Quito (pronouced key-toe) a complete contrast to Rio! Upon arriving I met 2 english girls and went straight out to grab some food. $2 got me a 3 course meal plus drink! Amazing! Not so amazing was the massive thunderstorm that broke out and turned the roads into rivers! My rucksack full of shorts and t-shirts no longer seemed practical....
Having said that it hasn't rained since, but it does get very cold at night :-(
So far I have explored the old town and visited the 'middle of the world' (otherwise known as the equator). Tomorrow I am being collected at 7am to do a mountain biking trip up a nearby volcano called Cotopaxi. Apparently its the second highest active volcano in the world?! But has amazing views of snow covered peaks and oasis.
On Saturday its then off to Otavalo market which is a traditional Ecuadorian market where the locals wear the traditional clothes and hopefully there is lots of free local food to try!
Next week I'll then head down to Banos to explore that town which has natural thermal spa's amongst other attractions.
The PC is a bit dodgy here so can not up load any pic's at the mo :-(
