3 of us met up at Teo Heng KTV Studio at Sembawang Shopping Centre (SSC) last evening. The 3-week old establishment was the latest addition to Teo Heng’s growing stable of KTV outlets. At first glance, the bright orangey decor that greeted us brought back fond memories of my budget Hotel stay in London.

Our friend had a Groupon deal @ $23 nett for 3 hours (inclusive of 4 drinks). The usual asking price was around $40+.

Our no-frills room was a bit small but relatively comfortable. I liked that the split air-conditioning unit in our room was neither too warm nor too cold and the welcoming, cheerful atmosphere of the place.

My only minor gripe was trying to get myself familiar with the touch-screen song selection menu. Even then, this proved relatively easy after a while.

When we arrived at 8pm, the crowd was still coming in.

The SSC shopping mall itself wasn’t crowded but it wasn’t doing too badly on a Thursday evening either. Fish & Co was probably half-filled even though Nanyang Kopitiam was quite empty. I guess nobody drinks traditional coffee at such a late hour unless they want to suffer from insomnia on a Thursday evening.

Oh yah, I really enjoyed our White Bee Hoon and the “Hei Zhor” (Fried Prawn Ngoh Hiang) dinner opposite the shopping mall. The "Hei Zhors" were probably the best I ever tasted in Singapore. The White Bee Hoon reminded me of the yummy Fried Hokkien Mee @ Chomp Chomp Hawker Centre.

There was already a queue when we arrived at 7+. Thank god, the line seemed to move quite fast.

I never had a bad impression of SSC given its laidback location even though my Sembawang SJ friend had never been there for more than 5 times.

“There is no NTUC Supermarket”.

And she lamented that I’m more familiar with SSC than her.

It’s funny that we never choose to visit those shopping malls that are located near our house.

Just like I had never stepped into the NEX Shopping Mall for more than 5 times in my life even though we had lived around the area for the most part of our lives.

“There is a Giant NTUC Supermarket at level 3 though.”

SJ must be real happy even though for the most part, it seemed a bit Xtra for me.
