A Train ride to Prague

August 24- An early morning wakeup call (5:30am) was in order to get us up and moving in time to make our train to Prague. We were out the door by 6:30 and at the train station before 7am. We tucked ourselves into our private, first class cabin and were on our way. (A side note... our learning curve on the trains has been somewhat slow, but we are finally getting the idea of actually using the first class train pass and taking full advantage of the extra leg room and private cabins) We rode this train for about 2 hours, before making a train switch at the Czech border. The second train was not as nice and the cooling system didn't work. We both got drowsy on the ride and woke up sweating (a theme is starting). The second train was about a three hour ride, and before we knew it we were pulling into Prague. The prague main train station was very impressive. It was new and modern. We grabbed some money (Czech Crowns) and headed for the subway. Two stops away and we were walking to our hotel, The Hotel Davinci. We were able to checkin early (1pm) and we quickly got ourselves to our room. We relaxed for about an hour and then decided to walk down to the old town. Our first task was to get some traditional Czech food, so we used Rick's recommendation and had a wonderful meal. The Czech diet is built on Meat, Potatoes, and Cabbage.... which is fine for us. Most menu's are dominated by Pork, with other "specialities" like goose.After lunch we wandered around the old town area and saw the famous astronomical clock and the hoards of people who collect every hour to watch the show. As the clock strikes the hour, two windows open and the apostles go by while a few figures on the outside of the clock move. Pretty impressive considering it was built in the 15th century. After the clock viewing, we started to head back to our hotel. We made a few stops on the way... A francisian garden, a church, and a supermarket. Once back at the hotel.. we rested and cleaned up and made our way to the Charles Bridge for a ghost tour. Our tour guide, Sharka was waiting for us and for the next 90 minutes we had a private tour of the Charles Bridge Area, the Little Quarter, and the Castle area. ( A side note from the health professional's perspective. As mentioned before, it has been extremely hot during our trip. As a tour professional who continually does walking tours and raises her arms to point out interesting features, Sharka could have been more aware of her aroma.)Prague has tons of ghosts and she explained the legend behind them. We ended in a ghost museum, which was a little funny. After the tour, Mom demanded Hagden Daz and I agreed. (Hard sell..haha). We enjoyed our treat and then wandered the streets back to the metro and back to our hotel.
