Some weekends trips are about the culture, others are just about excellent company, excessive booze and cheesy chips and gravy. Naturally, being a trip to Ireland, this trip was about the latter!
The happy concurrance of 2 of my friends birthdays and by concurrance we mean within a month of each other was an excellent excuse for a quiet and cultured trip to the land of guiness. Being a birthday trip, the details are best kept sparse to protect they young and innocent, but it's fair to say that Galway knows how to show you a good time.
A typical University town with many pubs, we missed uni term, but stumbled into Race Week which is quite large on the social calendar. We may have attempted to drink a pub dry on our first day, but did manage get out and tour the County on Day 2. We took a bus trip to the Burren and Cliffs of Moher with a side step to a typical Irish farm complete with sheep and cows and the cutest puppies plus 'mountains'. oh and helloooooo!little hill. On the flip side, the farm actually owns it so they can call it whatever they like and without that visit we would never have got to experience amazing irish traditions like 'pretending to be cows'. This cultural highlight rolled out for the tourists is where you walk everyone up a small hill, get them to lie down on the wet ground and be silent (a near impossible task with my motley crew of friends) - all to be at one with nature.
The Cliffs of Moher in County Clare are beautiful but way too many people, probably best to get there early before all us busloads turn up and make the place untidy or wait until all the busloads have disappeared. Whatever you do walk the cliffs as the further you get from the carpark and O'Briens Tower (see pic) the more the crowds thin out and you don't have to play dodge the sunday stroller. The blessed weather in Ireland is so changeable and we got pretty much 4 seasons in the space of an hour - sun, cloud, sea mist - its lovely to see the way the weather changes (or removes) the view.

Oh my god did tht dog know how to work the camera The bus dropped in on the Poulnabrone portal tomb on the way back to Galway but mostly the day was about the wild coastline.
Nothing else can be told about that weekend from a travel perspective, except to say with the right group of friends you may not remember all the delights of Galway.
