Ash's Place

Ash, my mate from home, kindly invited us to stay at his sister's house while she was on holiday (Thanks Laura!).

Taking a welcoming break from the stress of back-packing, we relaxed for a few days, spending one afternoon trekking through the forest that is Ash's back garden, as he excitedly looked for snakes. He once heard some thumping about and saw a kangaroo. Fortunately, the only thing we did see was a spider the size of my hand, as I came face-to-face with it when I nearly walked straight into its web!

The next day we went surfing, putting the lessons we'd had in Byron Bay to good use as we rented the boards and threw ourselves into the ocean. It wasn't so easy this time, as the boards were less stable and the waves sooo much bigger, so that more often than not I was being flung straight into the sea rather than gracefully balancing on my board. Perhaps we'll give the world championships a miss. But we didn't need a lot of skill to enjoy the waves, as Eleni stuck to body boarding (lying flat instead of the upright position) which still got pretty fast and dangerous.

Not too much else to do in Noosa, so we took a walk through the National Park, hunting for koalas, with the reward of spotting one being getting out of doing the washing-up! None were spotted, though we did spy some sea turtles swimming and surfacing in the waters at the foot of the cliffs we were standing on.

As always, we enjoyed being at home and doing home stuff like going to the cinema to see X-men 3 (it's brilliant!), and Eleni made use of the oven much to Ash's delight - roasts, lasagnes galore!

Tomorrow we head for Fraser Island, and then we sail around the Whitsundays Islands, the double whammy of tours that everybody visiting Australia is forced to do while they're here. Everyone does it! So it will be a while before we write again, but these entries and writing comments for us should keep you busy til then!
