Again we said Good Bye to Jola & Hugo to be early back in Amsterdam to meet up With Gerda & Dolf, who been away for a week. Liz wanted to cook a meal so when they were home they just could sit down. We made it but when they arrived they already had a meal. We ate with the two of us and saved the rest of the food till the next day in a way Liz cooked for them anyway. The weather is not improving and the forecast does not look good either. Next day it rained again. Not to bad for we visited a sick friend in hospital. We were surprised to find him in such a good spirit. We admiring him for that and Cor we wish you all the best. Keep up the spirit. After breakfast we left a cold rainy city, to go south and try to find some sunshine. Long long ago we visited the river Mosel and always liked the area. On the way we stopped at a familiar place called The Lucht. Any time we went in that direction we stopped there for coffee, the place has changed but the coffee and apple cake is as always very nice. Not many hold ups, the distances are nothing and before you know we passed Maastricht direction Luik. We found the same as in England. There were parking places but no service stations or places with toilets. This time it was serious, you could not stop anywhere. We saw a sign next toilet 21 kilometres. The speedo went up to 180 for liz was telling me to hurry up. We did make it and saw other people with the same problem. We had one more heavy down pour but after that we saw finally the sun breaking through. Not far to go now and we saw the beautiful Mosel next to us. Growing up in the Netherlands, we never thought much about the fact that our city had it's 700 years birthday. Most buildings were old and as a youngster, you did not know any difference. But now after living 50 years in Australia, walking through a township where houses were build around,11- 12- 16 hundred you are in awe. Not the least because, some have a decent tilt and you wonder, if it is going to survive a bad storm. Some of the floors must have a bit of a cake walk type of service, if you at line of timbers outside. Must have been super builders for them to survive this long. What a treasure to be able to see and enjoy this. Of course there is the obligatory row of shops- restaurants and ice cream parlours. Tourism is a major bread winner, but don't forget the Wine industry. All the hills are planted with vines. We hate to think what your ankles must feel like after working on those slopes. Even the streets in the townships are not easy to walk. The cobble stones are very uneven. We will spent a few days around here and hope to tell you about all the things we see and do in that time. Bye for now Liz & Allan
