Lovely day today =)
Woke up relatively early - my dormies made a lot of noise getting up and leaving - but I managed to fall back asleep.
I headed out to Sopot around 10h - a nice little beach-resort about 10min away by the dreaded commuter train.
Thankfully, this time there was a lot more space on the train. Weather wasn't really in my favour for the beach - it was supposed to be overcast and spit rain - but I had my bathing suit just in case.
I spent a good chunk of time roaming up and down the main street, looking at all the cafes and restaurants. I passed by the church, but didn't go in since I believe there was a mass going on...
After lunch I grabbed a gofry - essentially, a waffle with whip cream haha. They have lody (ice cream) and gofry shops/stands legit every 4th store.
Sopot is also known for its pier - the longest wooden pier in Europe. You have to pay about $1.75, but well worth it. I spent over an hour just roaming, sitting on the benches, leaning over the rails. I
love being on the water - nothing beats it.
I also had fun watching the birds and the clouds - they (the clouds!) looked pretty menacing back towards town, but the rain never broke free. Instead, there was a sudden burst of glaring sunshine that I was not at all ready for. The result? Slight sunburn but with the most random tan-lines ever. Scoop neck + halter bathing suit + my ponytail in the back. Lovely.
After the pier, I walked along the beach for about an hour - wonderful to feel the sand between my toes! The sand was nice and fine - not clumpy, not rough. Parts of the beach were pretty algae-y and smelled like fish, but the swimming areas were pristine! I managed to dip my toes into the Baltic Sea (nice and cool!) and just watched the waves roll in. The water's a beautiful, deep shade of blue - I haven't seen it quite like that before.
I headed back to main Gdansk after that - was going to try and see a movie, but only the kiddo ones were playing at that time, which meant no English for me 😞. Instead
I grabbed a coffee in a cafe, wrote in my journal, and then headed back to Gdansk Oliwa for supper - I grabbed the Polish fast food: zapiekanka. Holy mother... that is a meal. It's a long baguette (like... longer than 30cm), mushrooms (that neither look or taste like mushrooms) and cheese. It tasted surprisingly good... although quite heavy.
I spent another hour or so in Park Oliwa, reading under the trees by a pond. Yep. This is the life. I'm on a train all day tomorrow... so I wanted my outdoors-time today.
Now I'm sitting in my hostel bed, watching a daddy long-legs on the wall across from me. The epitome of travel-laziness? I am content to leave him there.
Good night!

Thanks for the hostel pic!
Very nice indeed. Much better than the mouldy 70's.
