After Coffs we headed off to Byron Bay. I had already been here previously for the Blues and Roots fest... and had some unhappy memories so i was willing and able to make new amazing ones. Byron is just one big hippy market i guess you could say. Its very cultured and very unique. We went to the YHA and weirdly enough our room was full of Canadians! one girl even from P.E.I near Marianna... small world! We didn't do to much in Byron aside from beachin it and walking around town. They do have a lighthouse there which is on the most easternly point of australia... we wanted to go but didnt really time manage properly and ended up walking this 45 min walk at night in the pitch black... it was very scary... sounds russeling from the bushes and us running like mad down the hill. it was rather funny. the lighthouse was beautful even at night and the amazing ocean view was rather eire but cool. We also did a day tour to Nimbin... a small little hippy town outside of Byron. Weed is more or less legalized... well not really but they sell it to you everywhere... the second we stepped off the bus we got asked about 4 times to buy cakes or cookies... it was so unreal! their museum is full of parifanalia and odd trinkets. It was a very big eye opener to see that people actually live like that. There were burn-outs everywhere but everyone seemed very happy (i wonder why...) part of the tour was also to goto this old hippies property which was achers of bush/swamp land. he was originally from NY but bought that land when it was uber cheap and just stayed there and its not protected under the environmental act or something. Anyways so that part consisted on people smoking what they bought in nimbin if they wished and eating exotic fruits he grew and nuts. He also took us on a tour of his massive land and told us about the trees. The bus driver and most of the people we met were very passionate people when it comes to government issues and corporate things. it was really cool to see and hear their views on life and just get a whole new prospective on the way they live. So after "Jims Alternative tours...the tour with the tunes" let us off at our hostel (we got a tshirt too! ha) we stayed one more day i believe and just vedged and went to a bar... then if was off too Surfers Paradise...
