Raring to go in Rarotonga

The flight to the Cook Islands was a 9 hour flight with Air New Zealand. I requested a seat change and was given the last seat literally the last row but the nice thing was no one sat next to me and I was able to spread out to sleep with 2 pillow and 2 blankets over the 2 seats. Just about as comfy as you can get on a plane unless you get three seats or first class. Just not gonna happen for me. They feed us dinner at midnight and breakfast at 7 am. There is a 3 hour time difference from LA and 6 from home.

I arrive at 5:45 AM local time and it is pitch black no moon nor stars. There is a slight cool sea breeze . Once I unpack and the sunlight appears on the horizon the sounds of the sea beckons me to have a look at her. A walk along the beach early this morning finds it at high tide and there is no choice but to water in the water, the waves break several hundred yards out with 5-6 waves but the closer to shore they are only minimal but rough according to the locals.

I attempt to find a boat and snorkeling tour this AM but many have shut down due to the rough seas. So I decide that I need to channel this energy that the island has given me and I decide to walk to the nearest town 10 kilometers away. The road is almost always within site of the ocean and a nice steady breeze helps to counter the strong sunlight. One of the mission this morning is to find a watch battery as mine died on the flight here. Maybe I entered some sort of time zone flying in to Rarotonga where the islands don't go by measured time and rather by the rhythm of the island.

What I wasn't prepared for was the black pearl markets. Cook Islands also have the black pearl as does the more famous Tahitian pearls. HMMMM I may have to investigate this!!!

I locate my battery after looking in multiple stores in a store selling appliances to food. I notice a Cleveland Indians ball hat for sale. Strange what you can find. The owner is a fan of American Baseball.

After such a long hike and walking along the town I decide to get lunch. I orders fish and chips and got the most spectacular long white fillets of fish that I have ever had. Yummy! I would have taken a picture but I was too hungry.

I took the bus for the return trip and sat with a man and his wife from Auckland. So I got some pointers on what to do there as it is my next destination. Back again at the guesthouse I take another long walk along the beach, the water still too rough to swim in but get to watch the antics of the wind surfers. Awesome flying through the air is must be a lot of fun to do that.

I go back to my room and begin to write it's around 5:00pm but I am too tired and decide to take a nap.
Well that nap lasted for 12 hours!!!
