This has been a highly anticipated day; sea kayaking down in La Jolla.. This is a very picturesque beach town just north of San Diego with a fantastic beach. There are caves along the coast and when the conditions are right you can go into the caves.

When we hit the beach the waves are slightly higher than the 3 ft. and we watch the kayakers try to launch into the waves. We are trying to get pointers so that we are not one of those that capsize in the breakers.

After a very short instruction we launch into the ocean and hope for the best. I'm in the front and when the first wave hits us the nose of the kayak is pointing to the heavens and I am flying off the seat and hoping that I land back into the kayak and not the ocean. Whew! I did land in the kayak but the next wave hits us instantaneously and again I am flying off my seat. Adam behind me is afraid rightfully so that I just might land on him. Not a good thing for either of us. But Neptune has spared me the dunking and the following waves are not as treacherous as the first two and we paddle out to the calmer area of the ocean.

Of course I think that I am in running for the America's Cup and take a quite lead with Adam yelling for me to slow down but I can't hear him and he has to pound on the side of the kayak. I stop and begin to enjoy the scenery. We are the first to enter the cave and we have to wait for just the right wave to help us get the momentum to go through the narrow opening. But what do we see in our way, swimmers; are they stupid or what?. Obviously they are and there is nothing we can do to stop but they are able swim out of the way just in time.

On the way back to the beach we happen upon a sea turtle and he comes up for a breath right in front of us. Cool but is my camera ready? What do you think!

Now the goal is getting to the beach without being capsized by the waves. We are told to lay back as flat as we can in order to shift the center of gravity. Well the first wave comes before I am aware and we ride the wave it was the closest thing to surfing that I will ever experience. Then the next wave rolls right behind that and it is so fun. But I forget that I have to be laying flat. So it's then that I lean back. And we cruise to the beach without mishap. Adam later told me that I looked like a dog that hangs out the window during a car ride. He had to do some extra steering to keep us level and not capsize. Hey that's what sons are for, right!! To keep there Mom on the straight and narrow, or is it vice versa??

We have a hard time leaving the beach so we take some time and walk along the beach front and enjoy the birds, seals and dolphins that appear to be there just to entertain us.

Of course that put us behind to meet an old classmate of mine from high school that I hadn't t seen since we graduated. We are to meet at Cedar Inn across from the mission of San Juan Capistrano So I have to FB and let him know that we will be 45 minutes late for a late lunch. Bruce was very patiently waiting when we arrived. It was so much fun to reminisce about high school. And it is so amazing that he and I are the only ones that haven't age. :-)

We aren't done yet as we have to drive up to Newport Beach area to meet my brother David and his wife Shanna for dinner. Dave is in CA for a few months from his home in Panama. We drive down to Laguana Beach Area for tacos and a nice visit.

We still need to get back to Adam's in Glendale and we are both very tired as the day has been very long. I can't wait to fall asleep.
