I wake up and rollover. Kirsten was gone, it’s 6:30 Am, I stumble out of our room and she is gone. Nowhere in the house, so I get dressed and head out toward the bakery. About half way there I see Kirsten walking back with a smile on her face. I ask if my friend from NC was there and I got a quick answer, NO, she was the weekend help. MY friend was there and she remembers me. She did, what about me, NO, but she asked about Bea. Figures Germans stick together. We walk back to the house and Kirsten and I create a great German breakfast with 5 minute eggs, brochens, meats and cheeses.
Around 9 O’clock we all load up and head to the Konigssee or as Brian pronounces it “Chicken in the Sea”. This a large lake in Berchtesgaden, quick note all lakes in Germany are called Seas, Hmmmm. It is one of Berchtesgaden main attractions. We get our tickets and get on the boat that takes us to St Bartholoma. You’ve seen this chapel in pictures but our objective today is to visit the Eiskapella “Ice Chapel”. It’s a 1.5 hour walk one way
between two mountains, so we do a head count and Kirsten and I along with Mandy, Brain and the kids are ready to go. We leave Oma and Opa at the café’ and were off.
We haven’t been walking for more than 15 minutes and the winning began, are we there yet, I’m thirsty, I’m hungry and so on. It was a good hike and we all arrived 1.5 hours later. We made it to the Ice Chapel. However, when I was here 10 years earlier it was significantly larger. The Ice Chapel is a Glacier that you can walk into and over the years it has melted and is literary melting away.
We have snack and after 30-45 minutes we begin our journey back. The return trip is always fun the hikers going toward the Kapella are always asking how much further and is it worth it.
We get back to our departure point and hook up with Oma and Opa. We then make our way over to the Jenner. This is one of Germany’s largest mountains. To get to the top we rode the gondola, 1874 meters, can you believe some folks actually hike it. Once
at the top you can climb up to a cross and look over the area, the view is awesome. We had lunch and sat around enjoying the view for the next hour. Around 4 PM everyone was ready for a nap so we headed to gondola area and began our return.
Kirsten said she needs to stop at the grocery store on our way home so I decided I would wait in the car and take a long overdue nap.
Next thing I remember is Kirsten beating on the car wake up and help me load the groceries. Whhaatt, you heard me wake up. Ok, ok.
After stumbling out of the car I half hazardly get the groceries and myself into the car. What a nap I was out.
We make it home Mandy, Kirsten and Oma make a great dinner and we then all settle in for the night.
Tomorrow adventures’ were only 10 hours away.
