Postcard sent from Captain Greg
Whale watching!

It’s just three days before I leave for Alaska and I had one last excursion I wanted to tell you about. Rather than book on with the cruise line’s whale watching trip, I found Captain Greg and his little catamaran hulled boat that only takes six guests. The name of his business is Weather Permitting Alaska LLC. I booked out of Juneau in the afternoon after doing the morning helicopter/glacier landing/ dogsled mushing trip. I think I’ll have about an hour for lunch between trips so I told Captain Greg he would find me at the crab shack at the Juneau wharf. He knew it well and agreed to pick me up there. Of course I have no idea what this crab shack will be like. I found it online and it seemed like a good idea. Yummmm more crab legs! The whale watching trip will cost about the same as the cruise line’s excursion, but I won’t have to jockey for position with 30 – 300 other people as may be necessary on the larger boats, and Captain Greg says we’ll take our time cruising out through the channel as we look for bears fishing up the streams. Since the boat is small we should be able to maneuver easily to get the best views of the wildlife. Captain Greg is a seasoned whale watcher and whale lover. I’m hoping that with his knowledge, I’ll learn a lot about the various whales and their habits, and hopefully get to hear some of his whale tales…tall or otherwise. You can find him at https://www.weatherpermittingalaska.com/Home_Page.html. He does other types of adventure excursions also.
