spaghetti, eggs, and bacon
Take a gander. Would you eat this? I suggest you at least try it, because it was pretty tasty :) So it's a Saturday. That means that there was not much going on during the day until night when everyone comes out. So throughout the whole day, I was struggling to find a title for today's entry. Here is an overview of my day (as usual), as well as the other ideas for a blog title that I could have used besides "American hot chocolate is LAME".
"Pioggia".
I didn't use this one because I've gotten complaints that I talk about rain so much in my posts when it rains in the USA too. Well, yeah, but it's different. You're in ITALY when it's raining. So the rain is a lot warmer and the atmosphere a lot more peaceful and natural and foreign, even with the lightning and thunder. So I woke up this morning to the patter of rain outside with the low rumbling of thunder, so I just laid in bed for two hours listening to that--it was more relaxing that sleep itself. It wasn't until it stopped that I actually got out of bed.
"Lunch= Spaghetti+Bacon+Eggs".
Ok now this one probably would have caught your attention too, because it certainly caught my attention when I
Random house in Rovigo
Just another cool building here in Rovigo. saw what we were having for lunch today. Everyone in Italy from day one has been telling me they NEVER have bacon and eggs for breakfast. That's weird to us Americans because it is a stereotypical breakfast in the United States. However, they do eat bacon and eggs dishes for their lunches and dinners. But never did I suspect that this would be in the form of some type of spaghetti. I have posted a picture of this seemingly-exotic dish so you can see what I first saw when I sat down at the table.
"____________"
Now this would have been an interesting title for a blog because it is just a bunch of underscores in a row. Just in case you missed that. But the reason I did this is because there was a period of time today that I really don't know if there was anything exciting going on. Paolo went to some bass lessons so it was Claudia and I home for a while. She played her video game while I played Mario on the Wii, studied some italiano, watched some of that new "Improv-a-ganza" show (basically a new "Whose Line" with the same people--it's hilarious!),
Random African troupe
They just came randomly walkin by like a marching band. It was entertaining to watch :) and other random stuff. It was really not that eventful.
"Buone Vibrazioni, Part III"
Ok, well when Elena told me that Nico was going to pick up Paolo and take him to a different, bigger music store to look at guitars, I thought, "oh ok. that sounds good. I can look around for a while at different things while he looks at bass guitars". Well much to my dismay, we picked up Paolo and went, once again, to Buone Vibrazioni. I was not very thrilled about this. At least it only took about 5 minutes for some reason... I got to thinking that as an adult, Nico would really not want to spend half the day inside a music store. Thank god for Nico.
"Mad World"
So we got back home and Paolo had me try this Wii game that Federico had let him borrow for a couple of days called "Mad World". Now since I am video-game incompitant, I have never heard of this game before nor have I played any blood-and-gore video game (Mario doesn't count) since... Tetris? I don't know. Maybe Mrs. Pac-Man. That can get pretty graphic. Anyway, the point of the game is
Comics, anyone?
This place is not one for claustrophobics who are afraid that a Japanese ninja will jump out of a Manga book at any moment. pretty grusome (look it up if you'd like) but I tried playing it for a while and it actually wasn't that hard. Of course, I might have been on the first level for all I know. But yeah... that's pretty much all I did until we left the house again.
"Girasole, Part III"
Well, Tommy came and we went into downtown Rovigo (I rode on his fourwheeler and Paolo took his motorcycle". We sat and talked for a while outside of the post office (the hang-out zone) while I tried really hard to understand what was being discussed. Well, I was doing ok, but there are occasionally are words that are not in my little dictionary, so I am always at a loss for what they mean. Well, today the let me in on what some of these words were. Apparantly, the thought never crossed my mind that teenage guys would be saying some explicit words in their conversations, and I was able to understand a lot more after that. Huh. Mystery solved. Oh, and randomly a huge group of African drum-players walked by playing instruments and singing. It was odd because the whole time I've been here I've
Rovigo at night
Pretty lighting of an area in a piazza here in Rovigo only seen about 10 black people, but now suddenly a whole parade of them walked by. Random... Anyways, we left the post office and we came first to a comic shop (filled with a ton of Japanese Manga books. Bleh), and then from there to the "Girasole"--the pizzaria that we have eaten at the last two Saturdays. I'm beginning to think they eat there every Saturday. (Man I'm catching onto a lot of new things lately...) There we ate, well, for the 4th day in a row (practically), pizza. Mine was actually good--I tried something other than Calabrese-- I tried "Salsaccia"--which was some kind of sausage with one single oliva (olive) in the center of the pizza. It was delicious 😱
"It is today when I realized that I breath only twice in one minute"
So after dinner, we went back to the post office where a lot more people showed up to hang out than before we ate. Well, many of these people I have never met, and many of them were girls, and many of those girls smoked. So along with plenty of guys that smoked, there were plenty of girls that did the same. Well if
Tutto bene :)
Just a picture of me to verify that all these posts are being written by me and that I am not being impersonated by another guy that sounds just like me. Just sayin. you know me, I hate that type of thing, and I CANNOT stand the smell of smoke at all. So, when I'm around smoke, I subconsciously hold my breath for extended periods of time so I can die of second-hand smoke less slowly. That's what I call "homeostasis". How did I figure out that I do this if it's all subconscious? Well, after listening to so much Italian and not understanding--especially when there's 4 or 5 different conversations going on at once--I tend to tune it out. And I think about other things. Like how much I hate smoking. And smoke. And how I don't want to breath it. And how I wasn't anyway. See my line of thinking?
"American hot chocolate is LAME"
Well the last thing that happened today is what gave me the title to today's post. Now it isn't the best title on this list, but it certainly is true, and I like it. You may not like my choice, but it's my blog! Muah-ha-ha... So Paolo and I went to a place called "Caffe Borsa" (literally, "coffee bag") to have a drink with some of his other friends. So we got there and they ordered some cocktails while I settled for a non-alcoholic "cioccolata calda" (hot chocolate), expecting it to be like the milk-with-cocoa-powder type hot chocolate we have in the USA. Well, when they brought me it, it literally was just a cup of melted chocolate (maybe with a little milk in there too. I don't know). So it was thick and creamy and not nearly as water and runny as American hot chocolate is--and not nearly as LAME. It was probably the BEST (and most appropriately-entitled) hot chocolate I have ever had in my life! That is all I have to say about that. (Oh! and while I was drinking the hot chocolate from heaven, I had a good conversation with one of Paolo's friends Riccardo Tosi, about American money, the NBA (I talked about how it's not nearly as cool as college basketball in my opinion. It seems the NBA is bigger here in Europe than where it's actually being played!), and how he read in part of a book a theory that America actually plotted the 9/11 attacks (WHAT?!?!?! seriously?! ok now that's just a little ridiculous, don't you think? I think I held my own talking about why I thought that was very implausible though... Ugh.) I think he pretty much agreed with me, but he was just saying how he read it in a book. Ok, that's fine, But just to think there's actually books about that....)
So anyways, that's my day for you all. Don't go thinking that America destroyed its own Twin Towers though. That would be bad, "capisci?" ("understand?")
Buonanotte!

9/11 theory
I'm surprised you haven't heard this rumor yet. It's been going around for a while now.. from what i've heard, something about how supposedly America planned it so we could use it as an excuse to invade Afghanistan. My facts might be wrong but that's what i've heard. I agree with you though, ridiculous. Well, other than that it sounds like fun! I bet you don't eat pizza for a month when you get home haha :)
